I’ve been in a sort of Tropical Mood lately and have added some tropical decor around our living room. A few different circumstances are what have influenced me for this mood that I am in; First of all, last month we were in Sunny Florida enjoying a family vacation at Disney World. I’ve been savoring that trip ever since and I wanted to bring a touch of Florida into our home. Second I just got some new curtains, that I blogged about in THIS Post. These curtains have a bit of a tropical look to them. And third, Being that we’re in the Month of February, I can’t help but dream of easy-breezy sunnier and warmer months ahead. But also, I just love tropical decor and the way it makes our home feel.
Once I hung the new flying crane print curtains, the rest of the room just came together. I hung some straw hats and bags next to the front door. Straw hats and bags have that I’m going on a tropical vacation vibe to them, don’t they?
Then I piled my red sectional couch up with a bunch of throw pillows. That one pillow in the tropical print really stands out and gives the room that tropical look.
I’m really loving the color palette thats going on in here. It’s a mix of soft blues, tans, and white paired with the Bold color of red.
Our living room is always a bit of an awkward space to place furniture in because there needs to be walkways that lead to the sunroom as well as down the hall and so it’s a bit difficult to arrange furniture in here, but this layout seems to work the best.
With the couch placed in the middle of the room like this it makes the room feel very cozy.
And Now on to the fireplace. So at Christmas time I had painted the fireplace in a Shamrock green color. (Seen HERE) It looked cute, but I felt like the color was competing with the red couch because they were both such bold colors. So I repainted the fireplace in a paint color that I already had on hand and I’m so happy with how it turned out. See This Post for more info about this soft blue color.
Here’s a view from down the hall. Remember when I stenciled our hallway in pineapples? It’s our Vacation Photo Gallery Hallway and you can see more of it here. I just added another collage frame to this hallway with pictures from our recent trip to Disney World.
So at first I just had white pillows on our couch and It gave our living room a more neutral look, but then I switched them out for the mix of patterned pillows I have now. I like it both ways, what about you, Do you prefer the white throw pillows, or the collection of mixed patterns? Scroll back up to the top to compare.
I’ve also added some tropical decor to our dining room, so I’ll be back to share more of the dining room half of the room in my next blog post.
In the corner of the livingroom, I have my old baker’s rack shelf, a wicker chair, a lamp and a bunch of tropical plants.
Hanging on the wall is still my wood shelf with Lighthouse photography prints. See More of my Lighthouse Photo Gallery HERE.
I’ve actually just painted that wicker chair. It was green before, but I’m wanting to lighted things up around here and so I spray painted it in a color called, Heirloom white by Rustoleum.
And then on the wall that divides the dining room from the living room Is this pair of white bookshelves that I have also redecorated in a tropical look.
I made that seashell print tray – (Seen here) that’s on the top shelf. And then I’ve just mixed in bottles, seashells, driftwod, straw hats, etc. etc. etc.
The Palm leaf (Seen HERE) in the tall wicker vase is what really gives this vignette a Tropical feel.
Okay this post is getting long, so I’ll let you go now, but please come back soon to see the dining area and how I have added tropical touches to it.
Thank you so much for stopping by today,
Emily

Hello!!!
I love the coziness of your home. I am kinda newer to finding your blog. I also love your fearlessness to change things up and use color…Bravo!!!
I love color too. I cannot understand homes that are all beige, white and cream!!! I would feel like I lived at the DMV!!!
You have a good vision for all these colors…they all come out great!!!
