2021 Red and Green Christmas Home Tour

I kept telling myself and my family over and over again that I was not going to blog our home this Christmas, but yet here I am blogging about our home this Christmas. 😉 I wasn’t going to blog our home this Christmas because I really wanted to have fun decorating our home as a family and just enjoy time together without putting any energy into trying to make our home look picture perfect. But now that we’ve got our home all decorated and have been enjoying it all so much, I decided that maybe it was worth sharing after all even if it’s not exactly picture perfect. (If that make sense at all) Plus this blog is pretty much just our home’s photo album and I’m sure I’ll enjoy looking back on these pictures one day. So with all that said, Please enjoy our 2021 Red and Green Christmas Home Tour.

I was excited to decorate the front of our house this Christmas. I’ve pictured how it would look ever since I painted our front door red earlier this year. So when it snowed the other day I hurried and ran outside to capture this picture before it all melted. I’ve also placed a small Christmas tree in a red wheelbarrow with some birch logs around it. There are lights on the tree and on the bushes, windows, and above the door. Perhaps I’ll be back to share a picture of our house at night.

Let’s start this Christmas house tour in our kitchen. Earlier this year I painted our cabinets Red. You can Read all about it HERE. The color is called Caliente by Benjamin More. It’s the same color as our front door. I think it’s the perfect shade of Red for Christmas, Don’t you agree?

As far as decorating the kitchen, I just added in some greenery. I made this pine swag that’s hanging on our stove mount with some branches off of a tree outside. I then added in some faux stems and tied it together with some plaid fabric strips.

Really, with the kitchen cabinets painted red, it already looked ready for Christmas and so the room really didn’t even need much more added to it, but by adding in the greenery, it really made our kitchen look extra festive.

I also added some greenery to our kitchen window. Here I’ve just hung up a faux pine garland with some lights and a strand of red and green wood beads mixed in.

I absolutely love having Christmas lights in the kitchen. I always want to keep them up all year long.

I have to say, this kitchen may actually be my favorite part of our Christmas decorating this year.

But now let’s move on to the Dining Room. This is where the “Green” part of this Red and Green Christmas house tours comes in.

A while back I spray painted our dining room chairs a hunter green color. See more HERE. In that post you will also see the exact spray paint I used. At the time, I was actually going for more of a “camp style” look, but now it’s clearly noticeable that in fact I was really just thinking of Christmas all along. 😂

I have also scrapped off all of the white paint from our dining room table top and sanded it down to the raw wood. I still need to seal the wood but I’m trying to find a sealer that wont turn the wood orange. Any Suggestions??

It’s actually quite surprising at how much color I’ve added to our home this year. First The red cabinets, then the green chairs, and just wait until I get to the fireplace….Keep Reading!

So as far as decorating our dining room for Christmas, I just brought in a mini flocked tree that I picked up at a yard sale years ago. I hung a strand of vintage pom pom trim around the tree. And then I just mixed in a few other decorations that I have collected over the years. I also added some paper snow flakes and icicles to the chandelier.

I think the best part is the elf’s hat on the marlin. Doesn’t he look like he’s ready to celebrate?

Okay, now let’s head into the Living room as I share a quick peak at our new fireplace color…

But first let’s talk about the Christmas tree. I love how our tree looks this year. We’ve had this flocked tree for a couple of year now and we really like it. This particular tree is no longer available to buy, but HERE are some other great options if you are looking for a new flocked tree.

All of the ornaments are ones that I have collected over the years. You’ll find a good mix of red, white, plaid, and plush ornaments.

The only new ornaments on our tree are these adorable little knit hats. I found THIS easy tutorial about how to make these hats on Pinterest and I showed it to my Mother in Law and had her make 20 of them for me. She’s the best! And I think she had so much fun making them for me.

So you’ll find lots of these adorable little hats scattered all throughout our tree.

I put my Christmas tree in an old painted bee box. I put the tree in this bee box last year and I loved it so much that I did it again this year, and I will probably do the same every year from now on because it’s the perfect size and looks really cute.

Okay, now on to the fireplace that I keep mentioning. I painted it in some leftover paint that we had in our basement. This color is Called Lucky Shamrock by Olympic paint and it was leftover from when I had painted our kitchen cabinets in this color. You can see how this color looked on our Cabinets HERE.

I told my husband and boys that I thought it would be so cute to add a Lego Christmas Scene to our mantel this year. So they have added some Legos and are working on adding more to it. So stay tuned, I may share how it all turns out when they are finished.

They are also adding in Lego’s from their Lego Christmas Advent Calendar.

The picture above makes it look like the dining room chairs and mantel are the same color, but they are different. The fireplace color has more blue in it and the chairs are more hunter green. I feel like all of the colors flow together around our home nicely without being all matchy matchy.

Again, I still can’t believe how colorful our home has gotten this year. You may be surprised too if you have been following me for a while. I’m just loving how happy these colors are making me feel right now.

So Just in case you missed it, I made the Merry Christmas banner that’s hanging from the shelf behind our tree out of recycled denim and cardboard. You can find my step by step tutorial about how I made the banner in my last post seen HERE.

And now I leave you with two last pictures. This next picture shows how all of the rooms flow together. You can also see our collection of nutcrackers on the two white bookshelves.

And here is a full view picture of the living room.

Like I said in the beginning of this blog post, This Christmas house tour may not be all that Picture Perfect, but I think it’s better than Picture Perfect because This Christmas House tour is family friendly, lived in, inviting, and cozy. Which is how I feel every Christmas house tour should be. Don’t you agree?

Thank You Karina! My son actually made that lamp for me for my birthday one year. He used This simple lamp base from World Market : https://rstyle.me/+sjMSN6Krd5qF87J0-0mLHA And some of my driftwood pieces glued and tied on with twine. So Clever Right?
