First of all I just want to say that I hope you are enjoying this holiday season and heartfully taking in all that comes with it. My favorite part about Christmas is decorating our home to enjoy with my family. Today I want to share with you our Living room and then I’ll be back again to share other rooms of our home.
You’ll see a Nutcracker theme throughout our home this year. We have a collection of nutcrackers that I typically group together on a bookshelf, but this year I decided to scatter them throughout our living and dining room.
Our Christmas living room looks way different this year from other Christmases in the past, because this year we have the new darker floors and walls.
I humbly think our living room has never looked cozier for the holidays than it does this year.
I placed our Christmas tree in this corner of our living room. I don’t always put our Christmas tree in the same spot every year, but this is really the best spot for it.
After the Christmas tree was up, I began decorating our mantel. I think our mantel is one of the funnest areas to decorate for Christmas. The first thing I added was this DIY Denim Merry Christmas banner that I made last year out of cardboard and denim scraps. See How to make it HERE.
Then I added our homemade Christmas stockings that my mother-in-law knitted for us. From there I added the nutcrackers, small faux trees, and some pompom picks.
We love these Christmas stockings so much. In fact my husband has I think four different stockings to pick from each year, my son has two and even the dog has her own stocking. My mother in law loves to knit these and has made well over 50 I’m sure for family members over the years. She also knitted that pillow that is seen under the tree in this next picture.
And then back to the mantel, there’s a few other items scattered about like a stick star, vintage red hourglass that I picked up from an antique store and a candle.
But our absolute favorite thing on our mantel is our new nutcracker that we just purchased. It’s an authentic Steinbach Nutcracker that was shipped to us in three days all the way from Germany. We picked this Big Tree nutcracker out as a family and opened it together as soon as it arrived. Isn’t it fun?
And then you’ll find several other nutcrackers on the shelf behind the tree, under the tree and on the tree.
I placed small nutcrackers throughout our Christmas tree and even stuck one at the top.
Other than the nutcrackers, I kept our tree pretty simple. At first I was debating if I even wanted to decorate our tree because it looked so pretty just bare, but then once I decided to go with a nutcracker theme this year, I pretty much had to add the nutcracker ornaments to the tree.
Then I added some plaid deer ornaments because I love using plaid at Christmas time. I also added white bulbs and a few other ornaments that I’ve collected over the year. Oh and ya, there’s little white knit hats on the tree too that my mother-in-law also made. But otherwise this tree is actually way more simple compared to how I’ve decorated it in the past.
I’ll share more of these bookshelves in another post, but as you can see there are more nutcrackers on them and even more throughout our dining room.
And before I leave you today, I thought I’d share our entryway, which you can see in the reflection in the mirror of this next picture.
I brought in my grandma’s skies! I love fining a place for these antique wooden skies every year. I found the skies in the rafters of my grandma’s garage after she had passed and I took them home with me. I don’t know who the skies belong to, I don’t think she skied, but they do remind me of my grandma and so I love to get them out at Christmas time.
I placed a red berry wreath on the skis and then I just hung up some winter wear for decoration. A large snowflake on top of the coat rack completes the winter look.
The whole look just makes me happy.
