I was looking at my fireplace the other day and was wanting to give it some attention but I wasn’t sure of just what. Then as I was cleaning up the yard I stumble across some beautiful moss-covered branches and from their my wheels went spinning with ideas and that is how my Thanksgiving Mantel came to be.
The first thing I did was switch out the horse painting I had hanging before for this old window frame. I’ve had this window frame for years and what I love about it hanging here is that it adds a lot without adding a lot. Meaning it fills up space but keeps the whole look light and simple.
From there I brought in this old wood beam and placed it on the mantel. I’ve had it here before so I already knew it was a perfect fit. I like that the wood beam adds texture and grounds the whole look together.
The wood beam also made a great starting point for all of my moss covered branches. The moss doesn’t show up too much in my pictures, but you can notice it up close and in person. I just think moss is so beautiful.
After the branches were perfectly in place, I added in all of the other elements like candles, pinecones, leaves and these adorable mini moss pumpkins that I picked up from Dollar Tree at Halloween time. They are picks but I broke the long stems off so that they could sit better on the branches.
My mom gave me the cute pinecone owl when she was helping my granny move. After having baby owls in our backyard trees every spring, I’ve become a little obsessed with owls. So I love that my mom thought to gift this guy to me.
The cut branches with leaves on them was the finishing touch to this mantel. I used the leaves to fill in any holes.
And then the chicken wire pumpkin is also something that I have had for years. I think it is what gives my mantel a Thanksgiving look. Otherwise my mantel isn’t all that “Thanksgiving” without it.
I know most bloggers and influencers are busy decorating their homes for Christmas and here I am decorating for Thanksgiving. I actually really love Thanksgiving and feel like it deserves its special place without Christas taking it over. Just me, and I’m totally okay with everyone else decorating early I’m just in no hurry.
I actually have to do some rearranging of furniture to get a tree into this space. And I really like the layout we currently have with a sectional couch and another couch, so again, I’m in no rush to decorate for Christmas.
I simplified my bookshelf a bit from the last time I shared it. I brought in the white pitchers, old ceiling tin and an antique wood box on the top shelf giving it an antique farmhouse look. Before the top shelf had more books and heavier items, so this feels lighter and simpler.
I also put some cut branches in the pitchers. Cut branches really add a lot to a space and the best part, they are always free.
I thought this next picture was fun. The reflection of my mantel in the mirror.
I added a white quilt and a ton of white pillows to my maroon couch to balance out the white couch across the room. I also love the pop of gold on that stripe pillow that I painted and blogged about [HERE].
