Putting my Living room back together

So after I finished Gel Staining our wood floors, it was time to put the living room back together, and since I made a few changes to the room, I thought that I’d give you a little tour around the room and point out the changes that I’ve made and share with you how our living room currently looks.

By the way, did you catch my blog post about our Gel Stain Floors? If not, catch up HERE. I still can’t believe I pulled it off. I’m loving the dark floors.

I put the bookshelves back to where they were before because this is a great spot for them. I like that the bookshelves are the first thing you see when you enter our home.

Instead of filling the shelves up with random decor, I thought I’d put them to use as actual Book Shelves. I gathered up most of our books and placed them on the shelves. I wanted to create a mini library for our home.

And then I did mix in some lanterns, glass vases, and a couple of pictures just to break up the books a bit.

In between the two bookshelves I have a tall wicker piece that is holding some wood oars, a cane, and a faux palm stem. Hanging on the molding is a cute bamboo hook that I recently picked up at an antique store and then I’ve hung some of my long seashell necklaces from it.

Now moving around the room let me show you the living room.

I kept all of the pictures still hanging, and then just brought back in the wood shelf and wicker chairs.

I blogged about the picture gallery in THIS post, but what I think is fun, is that I’ve used fabric from Hawaii as picture mats.

And then I just blogged about this antique shelf so perhaps you’ve seen it already, but if not, I created this fun Curiosity Display on the shelf and shared all about it HERE.

I’ve now added a wicker lamp and a happy spider plant to the shelf.

I gave the wicker chairs another makeover. This time I spray painted them in a color called, Espresso by Rust-oleum. The chairs now match the floors!

I also gave the coffee table a makeover. It was first a light Nutmeg color that I spray painted on a while back, but then I brushed on some of the same gel stain as on the floors, which again is Minwax Gel Stain in the color COFFEE. I love how it turned out!! I will be Gel Staining more wicker in my future.

The last time you saw my fireplace it was painted light blue. It was cute, but I wanted it to be white again, so I just used some white paint that I had on hand and gave the fireplace a fresh update.

I hung the beautiful black and white canvas print back up. More about the canvas can be found HERE.

I added white pillows to the couch and red pillows to the wicker chairs to keep the color palette cohesive.

And one last picture that shows more of the dark floors. Gosh, I just love them. I use to try to avoid the floors in my pictures, but now I make sure that the floors are showing. HA!

I’m still messing around on the dining room side of the room, but I’ll share it once I get that side put together better. I’m planning on painting the dining chairs again, so it may be a while, but what do you think of the living room side?

Please let me know if you have any questions about anything else that I’ve shown. You can leave me a comment below or come chat with me on Facebook or Instagram.

mmmm….My home came with (and still have) darks wood floors. I hate them!!!! Every speck of lint, dust and dog hair shows up. I Swiller them EVERY day and still I am not happy an hour later. I would give anything to be rid of them. AND let’s not forget the drips of water from my dogs beard!!! If it wasn’t so costly and so inconveinced to change them….they would be gone!!!! If your happy that is good!!!! Your home is cozy cute looking. Everyone is different !!!!
