A Layered and Collected Living Room

My husband, Jake was out of town this last weekend, and I found myself playing around, layering and decorating our living room every day while he was away. I guess out of bordom, or maybe a little too much me time. I’m not sure, but I am so happy with how this room all came together. 😊

It was kinda funny how every day I added just a little bit more to the room. Maybe it’s a good thing Jake is back, because I might have just kept on going. 😊

It started with this antique shelf. At first it probably had about half of the items that it does now. I went out to my garage and found the galvanized buckets. I was just going to grab one, but then realized I had quite a collection of them so I brought them all in, well the big ones at least. I still have a lot of little galvanized buckets in the garage. I just really like galvanized buckets. I love the muted silver metal of them.

The second row on the shelf is dedicated to seashells, which had been here before. The 3rd row is the Glass shelf. I added a lot of glass jars to this shelf. Most of them have seashells in them. One has beach sand and a candle. And then the bottom shelf has wicker picnic baskets and more seashells. …All my favorite things to decorate with.

Later I brought in the faux hydrangea flowers, and dried palm leaves to put in the buckets. And then I also moved in that old board with the chippy paint and door knob.

It wasn’t long ago that I shared this room right after I had painted it. So If you are interested in learning more about the paint colors, Check out THIS POST.

The next change I’ve made to our living room over the weekend is the couch. I took an old quilt, cut it in half, sewed the raw edges and placed it on our couch and I love how it looks! Bonus, the quilt had two matching shams, so I added those as well.

This sectional couch had a red slipcover on it that I took off a while ago and now I just have fun mixing up the look with white sheets, blankets, vintage sleeping bags and lots of different pillows. That should be my next post…..all of the different ways I have covered this couch. Would you be interested in seeing that? Otherwise you could always search this blog for Couch and I’m sure it will all show up that way as well.

The Red Slipcover just doesn’t fit in with the rest of my decorating anymore, but this blue quilt sure does. Love how it looks with the blue chairs in our dining room.

I then took the back couch cushions off and covered the couch with a Ton of throw pillows. Jake always says I have too many throw pillows, but I never believe him. Plus he wasn’t here to stop me. 😉

And lastly, I hung blankets on the back sides of the couch. I think it all looks so cozy. And if it gets cold, you can just pull the blanket off the back to cuddle up with.
