New Tropical Palm Ceiling Fan in our British Colonial Style Living Room

My Ceiling Fan Dreams Have Come True!!! You guys, I have been dreaming of having a fan just like this for years and now I could almost cry seeing it hanging up in our living room. Follow along to hear more.

So awhile back I had shared a blog post about Coastal Ceiling Fans and I hinted that I had ordered one of these. Did you guess right? You can see all of these fans in this POST HERE.

All of these fans look great, but I have seriously had my eyes on the Tropical Palm fan for a very long time. It wasn’t until Jake suggested that we get a fan for our living room that I finally went through with it. It always felt like it was a “want” and not a “need” before, but now that we have the fan running, I can say, we Needed this! it really cools the living room down.

Ordering the fan was one thing, but getting the fan sent to us and hung was a whole other thing. I had to order this fan three times. The first time (that you may have seen since I was sharing an unboxing video on Instagram) one of the glass shades was broken. So I sent the fan back and ordered it again. The second time I got a message that the package could not be delivered (one of the reasons listed was that it was damaged) and would you believe, the third time I ordered the fan, once again one of the glass shades was broken. I was just about to give up on my dream of having this fan, until I reached out to the company, explained the situation and they agreed to send me a new glass shade….but it will take a couple of months because it’s on backorder. 🤪

I do have a backup plan in place. In our basement are five similar glass light shades from our dining room chandelier that I removed. If you look closely in the picture above, I have one of those shades on the fan. It has more of a bell shape to it. It’s fine, but I prefer the shades that come with the fan. So I’m using this old one for now as I wait patiently for the new one to arrive. It’s actually hardly even noticeable.

Hanging the fan was also quite difficult. Jake hung it and I was his helper. The hardest part was adding the palm blades. In the reviews a lot of people mentioned that the blades got in the way of hanging it. So we decided to hang the light and then add the blades which was difficult because the screws were tiny and hard to put in, there wasn’t much room to work in, and the screws were not going in very well.

*NOTE: If we had to hang this light again, we would have added the metal fan holders before we hung the light and then screwed in the palm blades at the very end.

Jake may have said a few bad words while hanging this fan. 😉 But with all of that said, I could not be happier with this fan. I love it soooo much. It feels like a tropical breeze when you lay under it, and it looks so beautiful and tropical in our home.

I have always been drawn to tropical and British Colonial styles and I think that is what had drawn me to this ceiling fan in the first place. British Colonial Style incorporates a lot of wicker, fans, dark woods, white furniture, lightweight curtains, bamboo, and many more aspects, all with a tropical easy breezy vibe. I would say my living room has all of that going on, Wouldn’t you?

I removed the entire red slipcover from my sectional couch, remembering that the underneath fabric is a natural cream color. I then covered the cushions with white sheets. I dream of having a white sectional couch and this way I am able to achieve the look I desire. The white sheets also make the couch super soft to lay on.

*TIP: Adding White Sheets to your couch is a great way to change the look of it and the white sheets will also give your home a coastal feel.

The other side of our living room is still the same as it was before. In the corner is an old antique baker’s rack full of seashells, and then there are two dark brown wicker chairs and a family photo gallery hung above them.

You can read more about this family gallery wall in THIS POST.

I also removed the shag rug I had in here before because I like the look of our dark floors better without it. If you didn’t know, I gel stained these floors and blogged about it HERE. I have recently written a One Year Later Update about the Gel Stained Floors that you can read about HERE.

I also want to mention the curtains again, because they are still fairly new and I think they are perfect for our home. I blogged about them HERE if you want to learn more.

So Please tell me, what do you think of my new tropical palm ceiling fan? Any questions about anything?Let me know in a comment below or come chat with me on Facebook and/or Instagram.
