I just got finished giving my (almost) 14 year old son Jaxon’s bedroom a makeover and I had it clean for just long enough to shoot some pictures of it. 😊 My two sons Liam and Jaxon use to share this room together, but Liam has now moved into our sunroom making it his bedroom. I plan to share more of Liam’s room one of these days.
This room use to be painted in a light grey color with a darker grey trim. Actually this room has been painted in a lot of different colors before; blue, grey, chalkboard paint, and who can forget this room when it was painted in Scarlet Sun? The brightest red-orange you could ever imagine. As seen HERE.
I wanted to lighten this room up a bit and so I suggested painting the room in a bright white with all of the trim painted black. Jaxon was on board with this idea, calling it “Storm Trooper Colors,” and so I got to work painting.
We live by a True Value hardware store and so I bought my paint there using their EASYCARE Paint. The white is the “Pure White” straight out of the can in a semi-gloss. And the Black is a color called Penguin Black I think it’s also in a semi-gloss.
The White paint took several coats to fully cover and the black just took two. But with the black I did have to paint the door, the armoire, both windows, all of the trim molding, the built in desk, window seat, closet doors, dresser, bookshelf, wall shelf, and wall hooks. I did a LOT of painting in here. But that’s okay, I’ve come to really enjoy painting.
The Armoire was painted a navy color before, but I really love how it looks painted black. Because of the way we ended up rearranging the furniture in the room, there wasn’t room for a bedside table, and so I got creative and hung a shelf on the side of the armoire that will work perfectly as a nightstand.
Now moving around the room, you’ll see Jax has a big chair to watch t.v. in and above the chair is an old metal shelf that we had lying around. The shelf was green before so I spray painted it in a chrome spray paint so that it would tie into the room better.
Because the metal shelf was more of a bookshelf, I had to hang in upside down so that the metal legs wouldn’t poke anyone in the head. This way, the legs now work great for hanging hats.
The shelf works great for Jax to put all of his favorite things on. He’s got magic the gathering cards, some Star wars Toys, Legos, and other boy stuff. Because the shelf is metal he can also use magnets to hang pictures on it.
I tried to make it a cozy little corner for him.
I added a shelf above the desk area where he can display some of his favorite lego builds. We do have a basement full of legos, but it’s fun to have some legos in his bedroom too.
Also fun for his room is this Pac Man vintage style Mini arcade game. I’ll link things in the room at the end of this post if you are interested.
I’ve always loved this built in window seat with bookshelf. It’s just such a fun feature in the room.
Another fun Lego set Jax has is this Lego Chess Board. Although, I have to admit, I don’t know how to play chess and when Jax came home from school he laughed at me for setting it up wrong. Jax on the other hand is pretty good at chess.
Another ‘Jax thing’ is his jackets. Jax loves his Jackets. So I made sure that they were a feature in the room. I’ve just hung up a board with lots of hooks that he can easily grab a jacket from.
Moving around the room, Jax does have a T.V. in his room. Jax has a T.V. and Liam has a Computer, this way they are always hanging out in each other’s rooms. Which is nice for me, because I was actually kinda sad with the idea that they weren’t going to be roommates anymore.
We put fun lights around the t.v. that change colors and you can turn them on and off with a remote. I’ll link them at the end of this post. Liam has lots of different fun color changing lights in his room too that I hope to share with you soon.
And then the last thing I wanted to share is Jax’s latest trophy, his stop sign. Our neighbors bought a small school bus that they are going to fix up and they gave Jax the Stop Sign off of the bus. He’s pretty Stoked about this stop sign. It has wires and we’d love to find a way to have it light up, wouldn’t that be cool?
And then I’ll Leave this post with one last pictures of his bed…..because it’s made and it’s never made. 😊
So what do you think about Jaxon’s Teenage Black and White Bedroom?
