Bahama Style Bathroom Makeover

I was in the mood to paint something, and I was wanting to paint something brown …..And So that is how this bathroom makeover came to be. I was also envisioning a kind of Bahama Style for this bathroom, and so that is why I’m calling this blog post, Bahama Style Bathroom, although I’ll admit, I’m not sure that I quite hit that Bahama Style look 100% but lets just go with it, okay?

Before, this bathroom was painted all in grey (as seen HERE) But I felt like it was time to say goodbye to the grey and replace it with a warmer and more richer color pallet.

The first thing I did was paint all of the beadboard paneling and trim in a beautiful rich brown color.🤎 This color is called, Classic Brown by Benjamin Moore. Then I painted the walls and ceiling in the same color that I have in our living room, dining room, and kitchen, which is called, Titanium by Benjamin Moore.

I chose to take my pictures today with the overhead lights on, therefore changing the wall color shown quite dramatically. I changed all of the lightbulbs out for some low light/ 40 watts – soft white, which I think makes the room feel warm and cozy. I know my husband and most others prefer a daylight lightbulb, but really, it all just comes down to preference, and I was all about adding more warmth to this space.

I wanted to add a few new items to my bathroom makeover and so I ordered a new shower curtain and faux wood blinds from Walmart. This is Not a sponsored post, but I’m happy to spread the word about decor and products that I use and love.

The Shower Curtain is from the new GAP Home line from Walmart. I have always loved Gap and so I was excited to get something from the Gap Home line for our home. This shower curtain is great. It’s made with a very lightweight, almost sheer material and the blue stripes give a beachy look. This shower curtain does come in other colors too.

I also ordered a new shower curtain liner from Walmart. I had a plastic shower curtain liner before that was looking pretty gross. I’m over plastic shower curtain liners and think that fabric ones are the way to go. HERE is the exact one I got and I really like it.

I am wanting to get some dark wood shower curtain rings, but I’m having a hard time finding any, so for now I just found some cheap clear plastic ones to use until I find the wood ones that I’m dreaming of. I also would like to switch out the shower curtain rod with a dark wood one. I’m just really into wood dark wood these days.

So the other thing I ordered from Walmart were THESE faux wood blinds. At first I was thinking maybe I wanted to get some bamboo shades for these windows, but after thinking it over, I decided that blinds would be the best option for this bathroom because they are better at easily opening and closing for privacy. Once I decided on blinds, I knew that I wanted to get dark wood ones and so I was so happy to find these, especially because they came in a size that fit these small windows in here.

It took me a couple of times to get the blinds to hang correctly, but once I figured it out, I was able to hang the second one so much easier. Mainly I was just having a user error. 😜 I kept hanging the brackets wrong and then the blinds were un even, but I finally figured it all out.

I’m so so so happy with these blinds. They are Everything that I had envisioned them to be. They remind me a little bit of Plantation Shutters, which is what that Bahama Style is all about, especially with the dark wood color on them.

The molding at the top of the blinds gives them a beautiful finished look.

They are faux wood, but I think they look pretty natural, and I absolutely love the dark finish on them.

These blinds are cordless, so it’s fun to be able to push them up or pull them down. I’ve never had cordless blinds before, so I’m totally amazed at how awesome they are.

If you are interested in ordering these blinds, I would just suggest that you read the reviews, some people said that they wilted in the direct sunlight. This is a pretty dark room that faces north so I wasn’t to concern, but I could see how that may keep you from ordering these. I will keep you updated though if I do run into any issues with these, but so far so good.

We have a little cubby area in this bathroom with some shelves that I freshened up as well. This next picture shows you the actual wall color so much better than in the other pictures. I really love this color, Titanium….. Hence the reason I keep using it around our home. I also think that this color looks really nice next to the brown.

So on the shelves I just have some white towels and then a wood fish carving and some vintage bottles….mostly collected over the years from various second hand sources.

The glass bottle with the ship is Avon, and the little cream bottle with the ship is Old Spice. I have a thing for ships 🙂

On the back wall I kept my collection of boat buoys hanging up. These have also been collected from various second hand sources.

I’ve repainted these boat buoys over the years. Some of them at one time where painted red, but the blue and brown go better with the rest of the decor in the room.

Then I switched up the decor I have on the bathroom counter.

This lucky bamboo plant seems to really like it in here. The boys gave me this bamboo plant one year for mothers day and it was just a small plant when they gave it to me. I love watching my plants grow up 😊

I finally hung up the accordion arm mirror that has been sitting in the drawer for years now. I thought this next pictures was fun how the stripes show up in the reflection of the mirror. This mirror is from IKEA, but you can find a similar one HERE.

I added this fun wood mask to the counter. This mask was my husband’s grandparents I believe. the sticker on the back says it’s from Honolulu.

I love this candle but I don’t want to use it up because it’s no longer available, so I’ve been just slowly burning it. I blogged about this candle a long time ago HERE, it’s from Murchison-Hume, a company that has the most lovely all natural cleaners.

Oh, I guess I should also mention that I also got out my white paint and gave a fresh coat to the vanity, window trim, and door. It always amazes me how much nicer everything looks with a fresh coat of white paint.

Okay, now lets move on to the other side of the room with my freshly painted white door.

I kept the towel rack up that was hanging here before but then I moved the medicine cabinet to above it. The medicine cabinet is an old jewelry box that I madeover. We keep our bandaids in it. I did scruff up the box with sandpaper a little bit more before I hung it back up.

Then I hung this mirror above the toilet. My mom gave me this mirror when she was downsizing and moving my Granny into an apartment. I love that my mom saw the mirror and thought of me.

I did very quickly run the same brown paint that is on the paneling to the mirror so that the mirror would match in the room better. The mirror was more of an orange-brown before.

And then lastly we have this fun alligator T.P. holder on top of the toilet. Cute, Right? It was a gift from our Uncle, but I see that you can order one from HERE.

So gosh, that was a long post. I was just so happy with how the bathroom turned out that I took a ton of pictures of it.

Really turned out cute! Loving the blinds and shower curtain especially. I like the idea of plants in the bathroom. Never thought of that!
