Recently here on the blog, I shared the Blue walls in our dining room. (Catch up HERE). I also shared the story about how I told my husband, Jake that I was thinking about painting the walls a darker color to make all of the white wainscoting stand out more and then I asked Jake if he thought I should paint the walls Blue or Brown, and his replay was to paint the dining room blue and the living room brown, which was a concept I had never thought about before, since our dining room and living room are right across from each other and are basically one large open space. Anyway, sorry if you’re hearing this story for the second time. But I took Jake’s amazing advice and painted the dining room blue and the living room brown and I am So happy with the way it all turned out.
This brown color is named Stampede from Benjamin Moore (CC-520). However, it was previously named Texas Leather. I personally think it should be named, Suede, since that is exactly what it looks like to me. The Benjamin Moore website refers to it as A deep brown enveloped with moss green undertones.
Just like the blue did in our dining room, the brown made all of the white wainscoting stand out more, which was the whole purpose of me painting the walls in the first place.
In my last blog post, I shared more about the fireplace and this wood mirror. On the fireplace, I had removed the faux brick wallpaper to reveal the black tile again, and then this mirror use to be painted white, but I stripped it down and then I painted it with gel stain. I think that the fireplace looks so much better now. The faux brick wallpaper didn’t go well with the new brown walls and so I peeled it right off, and the darker mirror now makes a statement where it just blended into the white background before.
I added this pretty blanket to the back of our red sectional sofa. I think that the blanket ties the room together.
I didn’t really change too much to the room from how it was before, except for the wall color and the fire place. I did hang up my cow skull. I bought it at an antique store years ago. Under the skull is my Shelf of Curiosities that I blogged about once before HERE.
I also removed the fabric lampshade that I had hot glued onto this light fixture. It too removed easily. Find my DIY Light shade HERE. It’s almost like I removed a bunch of past DIY’s; the lampshade, the wallpaper brick, and the white paint from the mirror, which I find kinda comical.
I never wanted to paint our walls too dark before because I was so nervous about how it would Feel. I imagined it would feel dark and depressing, but to tell you the truth, I have been so surprised about how much cozier, warmer, and safe our home now feels. It Feels better than ever!

In our “Entry” I hung up this white coatrack that I’ve had for years. This coat rack use to have wood number tags that I had attached to it, but I removed them……Just another thing I’ve Removed from this room. 😊
I played around a bit in this entry, at first I had a wood oar hanging above the hooks, and then I had the hooks covered in all sorts of hats and bags, but in the end I thought simple looked best. I’m sure, as the weather keeps getting colder and colder, these wall hooks will just “decorate” themselves with coats, hats and scarfs.
I did like the color/pattern combo that’s going on here with my curtains.
Speaking of my curtains, I think that they look so pretty next to the brown walls. I blogged all about these Crane curtains and where they are from in THIS POST.
It won’t be long before I decorate for Christmas and then all of this will be changed up. I don’t do much Fall/Thanksgiving decorating, so for now, this room is basically just decorated in my current mood I guess.
Oh, I guess one last thing I added to the room is this fur rug. It’s from Alaska and belonged to my husbands grandparents. I love how authentic it is, you couldn’t just go out and buy this rug if you wanted to.
Looking around, most of my decor is pretty authentic, most of it I’ve just had forever. Anyone remember this IKEA coordinates pillow? It’s from Yeeeaars ago. Same with the white frayed Pottery Barn Pillow. I guess I just hold tight to the decor that I love.
And I’ll leave you here today with a picture I snapped of my son, Liam doing his homework. Gosh I love those blue walls, and now as I sit at the table typing this blog post, I look over at our living room and think, Gosh I love those brown walls.
