DIY Pom Pom and Jingle Bell Christmas Garland

As I was pulling out Christmas decorations from my bins I found a bag full of large jingle bells. I thought it would be fun to make a garland with the jingle bells by stringing them onto a strand of yarn. And then I decided that the strand of jingle bells would look even cuter with some pom poms. And I was right! 😊 Today I want to share how to make a Pom Pom and Jingle Bell Christmas Garland.

My Pom Pom and Jingle Bell garland looks so cheerful hanging on a mirror in our dining room.

This was my first time ever making Pom Poms and they were even easier than I thought they would be. I just got comfy on the couch, in front of the fire, with my cozy socks on, enjoying the glow of the Christmas tree, and as I sat there with my ball of yarn making these pom poms it all, all of a sudden made me smile and I said to Jake, I feel so Hygge right now. He had no idea what I was talking about and thought I was making up words. HA!

In case you are with my husband and don’t know what Hygge is, let me explain.

Hyg·ge

noun

Pronounced: Hoo-ga

a quality of coziness and comfortable conviviality that engenders a feeling of contentment or well-being (regarded as a defining characteristic of Danish culture).”why not follow the Danish example and bring more hygge into your daily life?”

Did you know that? So ya, I was having a Hygge moment as I was making these pom poms. 😊 Have you made pom poms before? They are super fun and super easy to make. I took step by step pictures which you should be able to follow without any explanations.

But I’ll explain anyway.

  1. Hold end of yarn with thumb
  2. Wrap yarn around and around your hand. The more you wrap the fluffier your pom pom will be.
  3. Carefully slide wad of yarn off of your hand.
  4. Tightly tie a six inch strand of yarn around the center of the wad of yarn.
  5. Cut in the middle of loops on both sides of the wad of yarn.
  6. Trim up pom pom so it looks clean and even.

I tied the pom poms onto my string of jingle bells, alternating between jingle bells and pom poms.

Obviously, you could make these using any color of yarn. You could even make it using lots of different colors of yarn. I thought this yellow-gold was a cheerful and unexpected color for Christmas.

Here are the items needed to get you started on this project:
