I realize it’s been awhile since I’ve shared pictures of our kitchen here on the blog and so I thought I’d share a little update for you today.
If you didn’t already know, our kitchen has been painted five different times. You can see all of the different looks in THIS POST.
I just love how different paint colors can totally transform a room. I love it so much that I’m constantly wanting to know what our kitchen would look like in this color or in that color and so sometimes I just have to paint it to see for myself 😊
So then you may be wondering, Why has our kitchen been painted in this same color for almost three years now?
Oh and by the way this dark color that is currently on our cabinets is called, Wrought Iron by Benjamin Moore. The Color on the upper cabinets and tile backsplash is Olympic Brand paint, un-tinted, and the wall color is called, Subway Tile by Valspar.
Now don’t get me wrong, I have pulled out my basket full of paint swatches on a few different occasions with the idea of re-painting our kitchen cabinets. In fact, I was really close to painting all of the cabinets in a mushroom color at one point, but I just never followed though with it.
I had also thought about painting the top cabinets the same color as the lowers, but when I shared that idea on social media, I got a lot of replies saying not to, that it would make our kitchen look way too dark.
I’ve also thought about painting the walls a really light grey or a soft neutral color and I think that would look pretty and it would break up the strong contrast against the dark and light.
But truthfully, the more I think about painting our kitchen, whether it be the cabinets or the walls themselves, the more I realize that I still really like the colors that I have now and I’m not sure that I’m ready to let them go just yet.
Another thing that I appreciate so much about the dark cabinets is that they hide dirt really well. When I had white lower cabinets, I was constantly having to clean them. That reason alone is enough for me to always have a darker paint on my cabinets. For sure!
And one last plus to having the dark cabinets is that is camouflages our appliances. Our dishwasher, double ovens, and microwave are black and so they blend in with the cabinets rather than sticking out. That is something that I hadn’t really thought about before but I really think looks nice in a kitchen.
So in conclusion, just in case you were wondering why I haven’t painted my kitchen in years, now you know. I still like this color and it hides the dirt really well. 😊
Okay, so I’ve got to know, if this were your kitchen what color would you paint it?
There are so many awesome color options out there, so I’m sure at some point I’ll be ready for a change, but for now, our kitchen is staying As Is for a bit longer.

I love the colours of your cabinets; in fact the look of your entire kitchen. I do think walls painted a soft grey with an undertone leaning toward light teal would be pretty, too.

Love Love Love this look! Two questions, which Benjamin Moore paint and was it flat, satin, semi-gloss or gloss?
Author
Hi! Thank you. So the color is Called Wrought Iron by Benjamin Moore. It looks like I used an Olympic paint, just because I had it mixed at Lowes. and I used a Satin Finish.
Hope that helps 😊
