Homemade Cards

I’ve been making a lot of homemade cards lately, so I figured I would do a little post about them. I’m not much into scrapbooking but I do enjoy making cards. The post office I like to go to is located inside of a scrapbooking paper store. So every time I mail a package I come home with a stack of decorative paper. These papers are so fun, as I’m sure you all already know and there are so many uses for them.

So here are some of the cards I’ve made recently. (I have a Huge family so there is always a Birthday, Baptism, New Baby, and other celebrations happening. Which all deserve a homemade card).

I like to use unexpected elements in my cards like cardboard, rope, fabric, and even burlap.

Here I’ve stamped the card using rubber stamps, I added a light net material over it and then tied a string around it.

I also like to make Tags.
You can buy a package of blank tags at your craft store. Then I like to decorate them using stamps and embellishments.

I thought I’d add this as well, It’s the invitations I made for Liam’s 5th Lego Birthday Party. I had planned to blog all about the party but never got around to it.

If you haven’t made a card in a while and are not sure where to even begin, I thought I’d share some steps of how I usually make them.
The First thing I do is dig through my craft desk and pull out coordinating papers, stickers, ribbons, buttons, dudedat’s and whatnot’s.

Then I take a piece of 9 X 13 Card stock, Cut it in half, then fold in half (basically you get 2 cards out of one piece of paper). Or for a larger card I trace out a old card onto the card stock.

Next I cut out some small pieces of the decorative paper.

and then I layer in my embellishments.

One trick I like to do is ruff up the edges of my paper by scraping it with my scissors. It gives it a little bit of texture.

Once I have it all laid out how I like it, I glue it all down with a glue stick.

It’s a good idea to make 2 at a time, So you have an extra on hand, just remember not to give it to the same person twice.
