Why Denim Keeps Showing Up Around Our Home

The Wicker House Collections No. 2 – Denim

Most people think of denim as something to wear, but somewhere along the way, I started seeing it differently. Over the years denim has found its way onto my couches, pillows, rugs, tables, and even flower pots. Looking back through old blog posts, I realized this wasn’t one project, it was a thread that has quietly woven itself through our home for years.

Beautiful Blue Jean Ideas for Every Room

Over the years I’ve found myself bringing denim into nearly every room of our century-old home. Sometimes it’s as simple as hanging a denim jacket up in the room and other times it’s a project as ambitious as covering an entire couch in old blue jeans.

If you love decorating with soft shades of blue, natural textures, and vintage charm, I hope these denim-inspired ideas give you plenty of inspiration for your own home.

Denim Furniture

Of course my DIY denim couch has to be first on the list. Not only is it my newest denim project, but it’s also my favorite. It completely transformed our living room and has become one of the most talked-about projects I’ve ever shared.

DIY Denim Couch ( Part 3 ) The Finishing Touches

I created the couch using old blue jeans and plenty of hot glue. It took time, but seeing all of those different shades of denim come together made every step worth it.

Because the makeover happened over several weeks, I ended up sharing it in three separate blog post. From preparing the couch to adding the finishing details. If you’d like to see the entire process, I’ve linked each post below these pictures.

Before I ever covered a couch in denim, I found this dark denim slipcover for my IKEA Ektorp sofa. I loved how it instantly gave the room that relaxed coastal feeling while still being incredibly practical.

This little ottoman has lived in several rooms throughout our home, and at one point I decided to give it a denim makeover. It’s proof that even small pieces of furniture can make a big impact when covered in a favorite fabric.

Some of my Favorite Yard Sale Finds

I actually used both sides of the denim fabric on this ottoman, above I had the lighter side of the fabric facing out, and then I removed the fabric and flipped it to the darker side as seen in this next picture where the ottoman is now in our bedroom.

Horse Decor around our Home

Another easy way I have used denim on furniture, is that I added a denim comforter blanket to the day bed in our sunroom, which my dog loved to lay on.

Denim Decor

Denim isn’t just for furniture, I’ve found myself adding little touches of it throughout our home over the years. I love the way denim brings in soft shades of blue while still feeling casual and relaxed.

One of my favorite finds has been this denim rag rug. It’s durable, easy to decorate around, and adds just the right amount of color without overwhelming the room.

Add Quilts to Couch for Instant Cottage Charm

This tropical denim pillow has become one of my favorite accent pieces. It feels a little coastal, a little vintage, and proves that denim doesn’t always have to look rustic.

Sometimes the simplest decorating ideas are my favorites. Hanging a denim jacket by the front door adds texture, color, and a lived-in feel that perfectly matches the relaxed style of our old home.

I love to add that Pop of Denim around our home. Here it adds a casual feeling to this tropical styled entryway.

DIY Denim Ideas

If you’ve been following The Wicker House for very long, you probably already know that I rarely throw old denim away. I see every pair of worn out blue jeans as the beginning of another project! From home decor to holiday decorations, I’ve found all kinds of ways to give denim a second life around our home.

These denim pillow covers were one of my most popular denim projects. Mixing different shades of blue jeans together creates so much texture, and they’re just as durable as they are cozy.

One of my favorite things about denim is all of the fun details, especially the pockets! These placemats have pockets, making them both decorative and functional for holding napkins or silverware.

Even the smallest scraps can become something useful. I wrapped leftover pieces of denim around a flower pot to create a simple planter that’s full of texture and perfectly fits my relaxed decorating style.

Denim isn’t just for everyday decorating, I even bring it out for the holidays! This Merry Christmas banner gave our Christmas decor a cozy farmhouse feel while using up scraps that might have otherwise gone to waste.

Not every denim idea requires actual blue jeans. When I painted this bookshelf, I used layers of blue paint to create a finish inspired by the soft, faded look of well-loved denim. It’s a fun reminder that sometimes you can capture the feeling of denim with paint alone.

Wearing Denim

It’s probably no surprise that my love of denim doesn’t stop with home decor. Denim has always been a big part of my wardrobe too. I love the way it feels relaxed, timeless, and easy to wear, the same qualities I try to bring into our home.

Even my accessories tend to be denim! These heels have become one of my favorite pairs of shoes and are a fun reminder that denim can add personality just about anywhere.

My closet says it all! I clearly have a soft spot for blue jeans! If there’s one thing this collection proves, it’s that denim has become more than just a favorite fabric. It’s part of my personal style, my decorating style, and the relaxed way I love to live.

Whether I’m wearing jeans, a denim shirt, or layering different shades together, I always feel most like myself in denim. It’s one of those fabrics that never seems to go out of style.

Why I Keep Coming Back to Denim

Looking back through all of these projects, I realized just how often denim has found its way into our home over the years. Whether it’s covering a couch, sewing a pillow, styling a room, or simply hanging by the front door, denim always seems to make a space feel a little more relaxed and lived-in. Maybe that’s why I keep coming back to it….because it always feels like home 💙
