Weekend Upgrades to our Backyard Beach Cabana

So I’m guessing that you saw my last post where I shared how we turned our unused backyard playhouse into a fun beach Cabana that the whole family can enjoy. If you miss it, YOU CAN SEE IT HERE. Well this weekend Jake and I added the finishing touches and now our Cabo Wabo Cabana (as we’re now calling it) is complete!

We are enjoying this Cabana so much these days. There are certain times of the day that are especially enjoyable and that’s mornings on the weekends, and evenings as the sun is going down. We added string lights that make it look so inviting in the evenings. And then on a really hot day, it’s so cooling to turn on OUR MISTERS and get a light shower. We even got a rain storm last week, and that was fantastic to sit here under the clear roof and listen to it.

We are still on the lookout for new furniture for the cabana, but for now, we quite like these Zero Gravity Reclining chairs. I would love a wicker loveseat with a chaise, or maybe two pool chaises, but I definitely wan’t to be able to try it out first before I buy anything. And also this area is pretty small, so it might be hard to find something to fit in this space. So I’ll just keep an eye out at summer end sales, or wait until next year.

We added steps on each side

So since I shared our cabana last, a few things that we’ve added are the two step on each side. Jake quickly made these and I absolutely love them. I was thinking of painting them blue, but I actually like the shabby chic look to them with the chippy white and green paint, so I’m leaving them alone for now.

We added a wood pathway.

And then this weekend, Jake added the wood pathway. This was something he saw online, and actually I had pinned something similar myself. We already had some left over wood from the old fence (that we also used on our bedroom ceiling, and on the back of the cabana). And then all he had to do was cut the wood, screw it into some 2×4’s and then burry the 2×4 into the ground to make it level. He then sprayed it down with the hose to set it into place.

This wood path looks like something you would see at a beach, so it’s the perfect pathway to our Beach Cabana.

Jake added the wood pathway to both sides of the cabana leading up to the steps.

We hung a Marlin Mount

Next up we hung up this Marlin wall mount on the back of the Cabana. We love Marlins around here, we have another one hanging up in our dining room. This one is just a smaller version of that one. Jake had this Marlin at his work office and we decided to bring it home to hang in the Cabana. It’s perfect for this space.

We shopped our home.

I grabbed a few items from our home to bring out to the cabana to cozy it up a bit. First are my new Serena and Lily Pillow cases that I just received in the mail last week. Once I saw the pillowcases in person I felt like they would match our Cabana perfectly. They were being used on our bed, but I think I like them out here even better.

Then I also brought out my Surf Shack book because I’ve been wanting to look through it again. The book may even give me some new ideas for our cabana. I also grabbed my favorite Beach towel, a straw beach bag to hold it in, and two afternoon drinks in my Serena and Lily wicker glasses.

We planted tall grasses

To stick with that beach path theme, I felt like some beach grass would be perfect planted around the cabana, and lucky for me, I already have a bunch of tall grasses growing in our front yard. So I just dug some up and transferred it to the area in front of the cabana. I’ll probably add more grasses and more plants over time.

Spot the Alligator? He was a gift from Jake’s uncle who gives him something “alligator” every year for Christmas. I thought this one looked fun hanging out under the cabana.

We added rope to the post.

I pretty much knew when I first saw these post that some rope would look really cute wrapped about them. I actually found this rope at the dollar store and it was left over from when I wrapped rope around our kitchen bar lights. Seen HERE. If you don’t have access to a dollar store, This Rope looks similar. I really simply just wrapped the rope around the post and tied the ends together.

We created a beach post.

Seeing the wood beach path that Jake put in, made me also think about how sometimes on beach paths you will see logs with rope tied around them to act as fences. So I decided to create one. I found this tall log in our wood pile, buried it a bit into the ground and them added some rope around it as well. It turned out just how I envisioned it.

And there you have it. That is our updated Backyard Cabo Wabo Beach Cabana! I’ll keep you updated if we make any more changes to if, but we think that it’s pretty great just the way it is.
