I painted our chandelier for the 3rd time

Since I just painted our dining room chandelier for the third time, I thought it would be fun to write a blog post and share a look back at this chandelier’s changing looks. If you have a chandelier or light fixture similar to this one, and you would like to give it a makeover, then I hope that I can inspire you today.

Here is what the chandelier looked like when we bought our home ten years ago. This type of light fixture was pretty standard for new builds and remodels around that time, just very traditional. However, I’ve never really liked this chandelier.

So the first makeover I ever did to this fixture was remove the brown frosted glass shades and replace them with clear glass shades that have little subtle bubbles in them. Then I created crystal droplets by using a mix of real and faux crystals. That first makeover already made such a difference to this fixture.

I will add a link to the original blog post below each of my pictures, just click on the link if you would like to see more of any of these looks.

Chandelier Makeover adding Glass Shades and Crystals

After a few years I decided I was ready for a change so I got out some craft paint and Painted the chandelier first in a beachy blue color and then I added a rust color to the edges to give it a worn rustic look. It really turned out cute!

These are the two paints that I used. I believe I originally found these paints at Hobby Lobby, but I wasn’t able to find them again to share a link with you today. However I found a couple that look similar:

I even played around with hanging some seashells from the chandelier. These are actually long seashell necklaces that I added for a fun beachy look.

The chandelier was painted blue for a long time, well up until I painted our dining room in a dark blue. (seen HERE). Once I painted the wall blue, it clashed with the beachy blue chandelier. So out came my craft paints again. This time I used a mix of Burnt Umber Brown and the same Rust as before.

New Blue Walls in Dining Room

I thought that the copper color looked pretty with the dark blue walls and went well with some matching picture frames I had hanging in here. I decorated the chandelier for Christmas last year and I thought it turned out cute. This was the first time I had ever thought to decorate it for Christmas.

So the Copper chandelier didn’t even last a year, almost a year, but neither did the blue walls. I just re painted our dining room again (seen HERE). Once the walls were painted in the lighter cream color, the chandelier stood out and that’s not what I wanted. I wanted the chandelier to almost disappear and so I painted it white.

The white paint really did make the chandelier disappear…kinda! The chandelier now blends in so nicely with the room and doesn’t call for any extra attention. I’m actually a bit surprised that I haven’t painted it white until now. I’m always such a huge fan of white paint.

So the White paint I used on the chandelier was just the same white paint I used on the molding in the room, My favorite white paint. My favorite white paint is the white straight from the can, unmixed. This time I used a Valspar brand, but I’ve used other brands of paint as well, it’s just the white that I like best.

But you could also totally use Any White paint you wish. Craft paint should work great too. Normally, I’d suggest spray paint…… but definitely not indoors.

I’m really happy with how our dining room turned out, and the white chandelier is so perfect for the room. I think it looks even a bit shabby-chic.
