Yesterday I found myself moving a few things around on our fireplace mantel, and somehow one little sailboat and a starfish from my mom’s box of decorations turned into a whole new look for our living room. I added them to the mantel, brought out an old metal lantern filled with badminton rackets, and kept the hydrangeas, glass candle and artwork that were already there. I loved it so much that I grabbed my camera…….and I ended up photographing the entire room.

Lately, our living room has been feeling more and more like the style I’ve been wanting for our home: a little beach house, a little East Coast summer, a little Hamptons, and still very much our cozy cottage. The denim sofa, the new wallpaper tile around the fireplace, and the bookshelves I’ve recently revamped are all starting to work together in a way that feels really natural. Nothing is brand new or perfectly matched, but that’s what I love about it. It feels collected over time.

I’ll add a Shop Our Home section to the end of this blog post in case you see anything that interest you. With that said, most of my decor is collected, thrifted, and held on to for years,

Vintage badminton rackets are such an easy way to add a little old-school country club charm.

It’s funny how one little sailboat from a box my mom sent me could inspire so many changes. I think that’s one of my favorite things about decorating, sometimes you don’t need a plan. You just move one thing, add another, and suddenly you see your room a little differently. And right now, I’m really loving the way our little living room is coming together.
