Disney Alaska Cruise – My Family’s Favorites

My family and I just got back from a 7 day Disney Cruise to Alaska and we had the time of our lives! I thought I’d share a little bit about the trip here on the blog today and perhaps if you are planning a trip for yourself then you will find some useful information here. I know when we were planning our trip, I found a lot of really helpful blog post from searching “Disney Alaska Cruise” on Pinterest. I learned what to pack, what to do, and what to wear. Today in this blog post, I want to simply share more about my family’s favorites and what we enjoyed most.

Oh Gosh, where to begin…… We had soo many favorites on this trip. Pictured below are my two sons getting ready to board the ship in Vancouver, Canada. Even though they are teenagers, they still enjoy Disney. I feel like you are never too old for Disney. This is our second Cruise with Disney Cruise Line, we also took a Cruise to the Bahamas several years ago. You can Learn more about Disney Cruise Lines HERE.

For this cruise to Alaska, we were on the Disney Cruise ship, Wonder, and it was Wonderful! This ship isn’t as large as some of the other ships we saw at port and I was glad about that. Some of those other ships looked to be 3 times the size of ours and I just felt like those ships must feel super crowded. But on our ship, we really felt like we had the place to ourselves. No where we went felt too crowded. My husband, Jake and son, Jax went down the water slide a couple of times, and they were the only ones in the water….. Granted we were on our way to Alaska, but the water was heated, at least they said it was, I wasn’t going to find out. They had fun!

A favorite for Jax was the Ice Cream Cone station that was running (almost) 24-7. Actually Jax was a little disappointed when he found out that it didn’t open until 10:00 AM – He was hoping to get ice cream as soon as he woke up in the morning. 😂 Every day they had a different flavor of ice cream to pick from and by our last day, Jax had had a total of 25 ice cream cones on our trip. We had him keep count. 🍦

As for my husband, Jake, he said that one of his favorite things was waking up early, grabbing a cup of coffee, and walking the ship. His favorite spot was the very front of the ship.

This picture of him makes me smile. He’s dressed for winter on top and summer on bottom. 😉

On one of those mornings I woke up early and went with him for a walk and look who we ran into. Mickey! I think the Characters are fun! We also saw Thor, Spiderman, Goofy, and a bunch of princesses walking around.

Our favorite day on the ship was Glacier Day! The view to get to the glacier was Beyond Words! We’re talking tall snow covered mountains, water falls around every corner, floating ice, and Seals. It was Spectacular!

I believe I heard that there are two different routes the ship can take to get to the glacier. I think the other route may get a bit closer to the glacier, but which route the captain decided to take all depends on the Seals. They really try to not disturb the seals in any way, but with our binoculars we were able to see several seals laying on the ice and we even got to see some baby seals too! 🦭🦭🦭 it was really neat.

A favorite of mine, was just sitting out on the veranda. I could sit out there all day. You have to pay extra for a room with a veranda, but honestly, I wouldn’t go on a cruise without having a veranda. It was so peaceful to sit out there and stare off into the beautiful views. I even saw several Whales while sitting out there. We actually all really enjoyed the veranda.

So this cruise has three stops, A day in Skagway, A day in Juneau, and a day in Ketchikan. My family’s favorite was the day in Juneau because we took a hike to Mendenhall Glacier that was so incredible.

We had to pay for a bus ride to get there($40 per person) but it was worth it. The bus driver told us lots of fun facts about Juneau on the 25 minute drive, and she also pointed out all of the bald eagles. 🦅🦅🦅

When we got off the bus, it was about a 20-25 minute hike to get to the waterfall and glacier. It was more of a walk than a hike. Once we got there, I thought I had died and gone to heaven. It was 360 degrees of beautiful scenery; A raging waterfall, a glacier, sandy beach, snow covered mountains, a lake with floating ice, and my family 💙

There was also a really neat visitors center with telescopes and activities. I would highly recommend going to Mendenhall Glacier. We had the best day!

Our next favorite stop was Ketchikan. We liked Ketchikan because we were right in the city when we got off the ship. All of the other ports, we had to take a bus or shuttle to get into town.

Ketchikan is very cute and is full of gift shops, like all of the other towns, but it did have an area that we really liked, called, Creek Street. Apparently at certain times of the year this creek is full of salmon. We didn’t see any on our trip, but that would have been cool to see because Ketchikan is the Salmon Capital of the World after-all.

Another favorite in Ketchikan was the Lumberjack show that we booked through Disney. It was entertaining to watch. The lumberjacks put on a great show! 🪓 We just watched, but the show is interactive and fun for smaller children with games and challenges to participate in.

And then a few other family favorites was the entertainment on the ship. We watched several movies in the theater, as well as some live shows, like the Frozen production, that was very well done. My boys really enjoyed a magic-comedy show that we caught one night.

And lastly, we enjoyed the food on board. We went to an assigned restaurant every night for dinner. Our favorite restaurant was the Animator’s Palate. But honestly, our favorite place to eat was actually the quick service spots where they have pizza, burgers, salads, sandwiches, and my favorite, Shawarma.

I feel like I could go on and on about our favorites, but I think I have covered our Top Top Favorites on the list of favorites. It really was a trip of a lifetime that we will cherish forever.
