DIY Bathroom Sign & A Look into our Main Bath

Since this is my first post for 2016 I want to begin by wishing you a Happy New Year!!!

I hope you enjoyed the holidays. I sure did! I am sad to see them end, but I am more excited to see what the new year has in store.

All Good Things for 2016!

Today I wanted to re-share a little sign that I made for our bathroom.

I originally shared it Here at City Farmhouse, so it’s likely that you have seen it before.

I still love the sign hanging on our bathroom door, and our quest appreciate the extra help of finding their way around easily.

I was actually inspired to make the sign from this Pottery Barn one, which is no longer available.

So if you like the sign too, re-creating it is your best option.

I found a piece of wood in our garage, measured it to fit our door, and then cut it to size.

I then painted it in a Valspar color called, Night Sky.

I went to my computer to create this stencil template.

You are welcome to use it if you would like, just right click on the image and save to your computer. Size it to your board and print out.

I centered and taped the stencil to my board.

I found some carbon paper at my husband’s office that worked great for stenciling on the letters.  However, I’m not even sure if you can buy carbon paper anymore, and I’m sure most of you are asking, “what’s carbon paper?” Well, it’s for making copies on a typewriter. And again, you’re probably thinking, “what’s a typewriter?” So in this case, you can just refer to my other method of scribbling a pencil onto the back of the letters, as seen in this post.

Once I outlined my letters with a sharp pencil, I removed the stencil and was left with letters traced onto the wood.

Using a small paintbrush, I filled in all of the letters.

I painted the letters with two coats of paint.

Once the paint was dry, I attached picture hooks to the back of the board and hung it on our bathroom door.

I think my sign turned out just as cute as the Pottery Barn one.

I also think it fits in perfectly with the rest of the room.

My boys think I should have made my sign to say, ‘BOYS’ since this is mainly their bathroom.

I think that would have been cute too.

Love your sign! And your bathroom. You can get carbon paper from art stores but that's the only place I've seen it lately.

I just love it! Did you have to scuff the sign up a little also, or is that the effect you got with just one coat of paint? Your bathroom is soo beautiful and perfect for little boys, yet not kiddish at all. Well done!

Your bathroom is gorgeous! We did ours last year and it's similar – blue and white!

Such a cute sign! I love the idea of having the space clearly marked out. And the bathroom *heart eyes*!

That's a cool idea. Quite frankly, I think most guests prefer when they can easily find their way to a bathroom when they are visiting, instead of having to ask or find someone to lead them there. You don't want to open the wrong door by mistake. It feels like a violation of your host's privacy when that happens.

This is a good article for anyone who does DIY projects. I really enjoy reading about other DIY people do projects so I really appreciate these articles. Do you know of any other DIY bathroom sign projects out there? I would love to learn more about how I can get more involved in DIY.

This article is very inspiring to me. The sign turned out very well it looks very neat and cute. I have been looking into spicing up my house and this is a good Do It Yourself to try. The door won't look the same at all. The best part is that products used are so inexpensive and available as well.
