Blueberry dyed eggs and a simple place setting idea.

Happy April!

Have you been fooled yet today?

I played a few over on my family this morning;

I put a plastic bug in my husband’s coffee mug, I froze my boy’s cereal and tried to serve it to them for breakfast, I laid out superhero costumes instead of their regular clothes to wear today, and then I placed a gravy packet and a candy cane in with my son’s lunch.

Ha Ha Ha!

I’m such a prankster!

So Anyway, I love the idea of natural dyed Easter eggs.

There are so many different fruits and vegetables you can use to get a variety of  beautiful colors.

I had never tried this natural dye method before but thought I’d give a crack at it (get it?)

So I chose to go with a blueberry dye.

I didn’t have any fresh blueberries on hand so I used frozen blueberries.

I think that is why my eggs turned out more purple than blue.

To make the dye

boil 1 cup of blueberries (fresh or frozen) in 2 cups water.

Add 1 tsp salt.

Boil for 10-15 minutes.

Strain and place in jar.

Add 1 Tbs white vinegar

cool before using.

I gave my eggs an ombre effect by leaving the eggs in the dye for different lengths of time.

The lightest being around 1 minute – The darkest around an hour.

I thought the eggs could make a pretty place setting for an Easter table.

By cutting up an empty egg carton, I created individual egg cups

to place on each place setting.

Then I cut out a small rectangle from the egg carton and wrote a name on it using a pencil.

I think the place setting is very natural and pretty.

I also couldn’t resist shooting a few pictures of the eggs in a bed of purple flowers.

I think the eggs turned out beautiful.  They are a little spotty, but I think that happens sometimes with all dyes.

I also like that it didn’t dye the egg on the inside,  I have a hard time eating hard boiled eggs that are brightly colored.

Now I’m wanting to try out a few other natural dyes.

Thanks for stopping by,

Emily
