I love putting together post like this because it always reminds me of 1. The Power of Paint, and 2. The ever changing looks around our home.

I recently shared our latest dining room makeover. I’m calling this room, Our Charming Coastal Cottage Dining Room and you can read all about it HERE. I painted the ceiling, walls, chandelier, wicker rocker, and dining room chairs. Today I wanted to talk more about the dining chairs and give a look back at these chairs and their changing looks.

Our dining room Table and Chairs were handed down to us from my Mother-in-Law. When she gave us the table and chairs they were wood. Today, I would probably keep them all wood. Maybe gel stain them, or sand and re-stain them, but back several years ago, I didn’t care much for wood and never thought twice about painting over it.

Kitchen Chair Makeover

At first I just painted the chairs black, and then later I painted the table white. Since then, I have sanded the table top back to wood but kept the table legs white.

Our Painted dining room Table

I really do like these chairs, I think the style of them is cute with the spindles. The two end chairs are more like Captain chairs and have arms….. however one of the captain chairs broke and so we are down to just one. That is one of the reasons why I brought in the wicker rocker.

So for the first makeover, I spray painted the Chairs Black. I used THIS Black Spray Paint. I sprayed them pretty lightly, allowing a little bit of the wood to peek through.

Kitchen Chair Makeover – Black

The black was really pretty but after several years they were getting worn looking and so I decided to repaint them, this time in green!

I loved THIS Dark Hunter Green color. , But just be aware, Rust-Oleum has another color just called, Hunter Green, and It’s more brighter than this Dark Hunter Green.

At the time I was going for a Camp Style / Lake House Style in our dining room and so this Dark Hunter green helped to achieve that look.

Painting Wicker and Dining Chairs Dark Hunter Green

The chairs looked more green outside, once I brought them back into the house, I had mentioned that they didn’t look a whole lot different than the black.

So now, That brings us to the new blue color. Once I had painted the ceiling and the walls in the dining room, the dark hunter green chairs looked out of place. I was now going for a beachy look, and so this blue seemed to be a good choice.

So I went with THIS color, named SPA BLUE. Truthfully, when I went to the store to buy blue spray paint, I got a little overwhelmed, There were a ton of different options and I sat there in the isle for a good 15 minutes going back and forth. Luckily, I had a picture of our dinning room progress on my phone so I was able to use it to choose the color that I thought would look best with the rest of the room.

As far as painting, I just cleaned the chairs off with a rag and spray painted them. No sanding, primer, or topcoat. This method seems to work well for me. I gave them a coat of spray paint and then came back the next day and did touchups. I used 4 cans of spray paint to cover 6 chairs.

It was actually pretty funny, because as I was outside painting the chairs, I looked over and realized that they were almost a perfect match to our new Blue backyard Beach Cabana. So it turns out I did pick the perfect blue after all 😊

Weekend Updates to our Backyard Beach Cabana

The chairs look cute in our dining room and added to the Coastal Cottage vibe that’s going on in here.

My Charming Coastal Cottage Dining Room Reveal

I should mention real quick, because I had told a few on Instagram that I was going to paint the chairs white. Well…. I started to paint the chairs with white wall paint. I had my white paint out when I painted the chandelier and touched up the white trim. But because these chairs had been spray painted in the past, the White Paint just scratched off. It wasn’t going to work. I would need to sand and prime the chairs first in order to paint them with wall paint, OR use White spray paint, but honestly, I haven’t liked white spray paint on furniture when I’ve tried it in the past. It’s fine on frames and decor, but I never quite liked the white in spray paint. Can anyone Relate? Now, with that said, I may try white spray paint on the chairs another time in the future, but this time, I thought I’d just go for a fun pop of blue instead.

Looking at the picture above, White chairs would look cute too, but the Blue adds so much Coastal Cottage Charm to the room. Agree?

Did you catch my newly painted chandelier post? This chandelier was also a fun one to look back on. I’ve painted it just as many times as the chairs.

I painted our Chandelier for the 3rd time
