Coastal Shadow Box

I have a fun little project to share with you today. I created this unique wall art using a shadow box frame. It’s something you could create as well, making it unique to you.

What inspired this project was a shadow box frame that I picked up at a yard sale. I was walking to work last week, when I actually walked passed a home that was having a yard sale, so of course I had to look as I was walking by. The Collage frame caught my eye first. I’m always on the lookout for collage frames for our Vacation Photo Gallery, because collage frames are hard to come by these days. But then I also noticed the shadow box frame and grabbed that one as well. Each frame was 1$ so I paid 2$ for both. Bonus, they were both brand new, never used.

The first thing I did was take the frame apart and spray paint it. The frame has another frame inside of it to keep the glass in place. I used this spray paint to give it a pretty creamy white color.

Once the paint was dry, I reassembled the frame. I then laid out my objects to how I liked it. I added an old vintage blue bottle with seashells, a piece of driftwood that reminded me of a whale’s tale, and then a few medium size seashells.

I then took an old vintage print of a sailboat and taped it to the cardboard that came with the frame.

Looking at the back of this art print is a price tag that says $1 so I’m guessing that I must have purchased this print at a yard sale or estate sale, but that was years ago.

I then attached the back of the frame and it was ready to hang.

Supplies

I hung the shadow box frame in our dining room. I haven’t shared this room yet since I’ve painted it, but I promise that blog post will be coming soon.

I really love how this room turned out and I can’t wait to share the rest of it with you soon. I also really love how this shadow box turned out, it’s so much more interesting then just a frame picture.

I think this idea is so fun because you can really personalize it to make it your own. A vacation picture with souvenirs, a collection of small items, fill the whole thing with seashells, or whatever. There are so many fun ways you could use this frame. What would you use it for?
