Coastal Cottage Living Room – New Paint Reveal

It hasn’t even been a year since I painted our living room Brown (seen Here) but I was really wanting to repaint it again and so I did. I also made over the dining room that is across the room in the same paint colors, which I will be sharing soon. I have a few more projects to tackle on the dining room side, so I thought I’d just share our living room with you today.

The first thing I did was paint the ceilings in a light blue. The Blue is Called Lullaby by Sherwin Williams although my paint chip said Crisp Blue, apparently Sherwin Williams changed the name of it. Funny because the same thing happened with the brown color that I had painted previously, it too had a name change.

After the ceiling was painted, I painted the walls in this pretty creamy color. This wall color is called Tahitian Vanilla by Valspar and I had it mixed, as well as the ceiling paint at my local True Value using their Easy Care paint. I recently found out that True Value has ALL of the paint colors of all of the other brands in their system. I hadn’t known this before, but I was excited to hear this since, if you didn’t know, I’m kinda a paint chip hoarder, and now it’s good to know that they can mix any of the colors for me.

After the walls were painted, I touched up all of the white trim….. and there’s a lot! The trim is what I love most about our living and dining room. A fresh coat of white paint always completes my painting job.

Next it was time to put the room back together. Instead of hanging my gallery photo wall back up, I opted to hang our marlin that use to hang in our dining room. I also moved the antique bakers rack shelf to the wall below it.

I like to display my collection of seashells on this shelf. I did mix in some battery operated candles as well.

I also kept the two wicker chairs in this area of the room as well. I tried to give them a new look with switching out the pillows on them.

I was going for a Coastal Cottage look in our living room so I shopped my own home looking for anything that had a colorful charming look to it, but I really only found a few things.

On one of the chairs I have a blue gingham print quilt and then I covered a pillow with an orange and white stripe piece of fabric. I love the look of the two prints together.

On the second chair I draped a blue throw blanket over the arm and then layered a couple of other pillows to the chair.

Isn’t the daisy peace pillow cute? I actually use to sell this pillow in my Etsy Store. At one time, my sister had an ink block press (not sure what it’s called) but she was able to make t-shirts and other things. I had teamed up with her to create a couple of pillows and this was one of them. She no longer has her equipment, which is too bad, I would love to continue to design and sell pillows. Anyway glad I kept this one for myself.

Can we go back and talk about this wall color a bit more because I really love it. When I was painting, the color reminded me of melted vanilla ice cream. It’s just so creamy and delicious, I can’t get enough of it. After having dark brown walls in here, this color was so refreshing. I always talk about how paint colors create a feeling, and this color feels calm and mellow. I’m so happy with it.

So back to talking about pillows. Ha! I really did grab anything in our home that looked colorful and charming, here on the couch I added this green and blue blanket that was my husbands when he was a little boy. So Sweet! And then the green pillow is one I made forever ago out of fabric I brought home from Hawaii.

Here is a full look of the room. We recently hung the ceiling fan, that I Blogged about HERE. and we are loving it soooo much. We have it running all of the time now and it’s so wonderful to lay under it. I love this fan!

I took down the mirror that was hanging on the mantel and hung this darling art in its place. We had this art hanging in our laundry room before but now I feel like it fits perfect with my beach cottage decor. It’s a fun painting and has a fun family story behind it. Apparently, this may even be the original painting because according to my husband his uncle paid a lot for it. I just think it’s fun and makes me smile. It also is the perfect size to hang here.

Some old oars sit next to the fireplace while on the hearth is my tall wicker vase holding some faux palms and orchids. I love to mix tropical elements into my spaces.

On the coffee table is an amber colored glass vase holding a candle and a metal fish tray which holds all of our remotes; A remote for the fan, a remote for the fireplace, a remote for the candles….so many remotes!

I saw this idea at a store as a display once and now I do it all of the time. You fill a large glass vase with rocks on the bottom and then place a candle inside. I love this idea and it makes the candle even prettier to look at. Sometimes instead of rocks, I’ve seen stores add coffee beans or other dried beans, which is also a fun touch.
