After sharing our Coastal Cottage Living Room and our Coastal Cottage Dining Room, I thought I ought to decorate these bookshelves that divide the two spaces and create a Coastal Cottage Bookshelf display.

I’m loving the new paint colors so much. So on the ceiling is Sherwin William’s Lullaby and on the walls is Tahitian Vanilla by Valspar. These two colors are giving our home such a calm airy feeling.
BEFORE: I had one half of the wall blue and the other half brown. And even though I liked these colors around the rooms, this dividing wall behind the bookshelves always bothered me with the two different colors. What a difference between the top and bottom pictures, eh? I like them both, but like I said, the new colors and bringing so much calm to our home and it’s so welcoming.
So to make these bookshelves tie in better to our living and dining rooms, I kept them rather simple. I focused on adding lots of picture frames, books, glass, and candles. I kept the look light but added a little pop of color.
The color mostly comes from the books. I stored away all of the paperbacks (conveniently in the cabinets below) and only kept my larger, hard covered decorating books out, mostly all on the bottom shelf. I’ve blogged about some of the books in the past. SEE BOOKS HERE to take a closer look. I also have decorating books listed on my AMAZON PAGE.
This lantern keeps getting moved around our home, but I love how it can hang here on a bamboo hook. I have a battery operated candle in the lantern as well as a few more throughout the shelves, the candles look so pretty and cozy lit up at night.
The framed pictures are probably my favorite part. I’m all about displaying pictures around our home.
Glass is also a go-to for me. I love how it always adds a little sparkle, and blue glass is always a favorite for me. Blue glass always adds a bit of a coastal vibes to a space.
