Lately I’ve been craving a little sporty, preppy energy in our home, so I did what any “Decorating Loving” mom would do …….. I raided my son’s closet!
I pulled out a couple of his old rugby style shirts, hung them in our entryway so the patches and numbers were seen, and started layering in a few of my favorite nautical and preppy pieces. And actually, these are older Abercrombie and Fitch Shirts that belong to my husband years ago and then handed down to my son. I’m a sucker for this look. I love the patches, rugby stripes, and sports numbers.
With the red and white white striped bag, boat paddle, navy corduroy hat, old scenic print and Ralph Lauren duffle bag, it came together with just the look I was after. I love this combination of rugby stripes, patches, navy and nautical colors, and I think it feels especially good this time of year.
I love how a few simple changes can completely shift the feeling of a room. Just adding a couple of shirts from my son’s closet, a few pieces I already had, and a little rearranging. I’m always drawn to the combination of sporty details, classic stripes, nautical colors and a little bit of Ralph Lauren inspired style, and this might just be one of my favorite looks for this time of year.
And apparently, this isn’t the first time I’ve fallen for the rugby/preppy look. A few years ago I painted stripes on some maroon colored pillows to give them that same sporty feel, and looking back at those photos, I realized I was definitely having a similar decorating moment then too.
