The Wicker House Collections No. 3 – Wicker
Before we get started, here’s a fun decorating fact. We often use the word wicker to describe woven furniture and baskets, but wicker is actually a weaving technique rather than a material. Many of the pieces you’ll see throughout our home are made from rattan, bamboo, seagrass, cane, willow, and other natural fibers.
For simplicity (and because it’s how most of us talk about it!), I’ll refer to these woven pieces as wicker throughout this post. No matter what they’re made from, they all bring the same relaxed, collected charm that I love decorating with.

If you’ve been around The Wicker House for a while, you’ve probably noticed one thing, I have a hard time passing up beautiful wicker. From baskets and trunks to lamps, furniture, and little decorative accents, woven pieces have found their way into nearly every room of our home.
This post is meant to be a visual collection of my favorite wicker pieces over the years. I’ve included lots of photographs, and beneath each image you’ll find a link to the original blog post if you’d like to see more decorating ideas, tutorials, or the full room reveal.
Wicker Furniture
Wicker furniture has always been one of those things I can’t resist. I don’t own nearly as much as I’d like, but every piece I’ve brought home has become a favorite. A wicker chair, coffee table, headboard, or bench somehow makes a room feel warmer, earthy, and more collected.

Wicker Baskets
You really can’t have too many wicker baskets! They’re beautiful on their own, but they’re also one of the easiest ways to add warmth and texture to a room. Throughout our home, I use wicker baskets to hold everything from plants and seashells to napkins, blankets, and everyday clutter. Most of mine have been found secondhand over the years, and I love that each one has its own unique shape and character. They’re practical, timeless, and somehow always seem to find a purpose.

Wicker Trunks and Picnic Baskets
My collection of wicker trunks and picnic baskets has definitely grown over the years. From vintage suitcase-style picnic baskets to old curved-lid trunks and painted lidded baskets, each one has found a purpose somewhere in our home. I love stacking them for display, using them as side tables, or filling them with blankets, family photos, memorabilia, candles, and seasonal décor. They’re the kind of pieces that are just as functional as they are beautiful, and because most were found secondhand, each one has its own story to tell.

Wicker Decor
While wicker furniture often gets all the attention, I think it’s the smaller woven accessories that really bring a room to life. A wicker pitcher filled with flowers, wicker-wrapped drinking glasses, a wicker wine carrier, or even a woven tray hanging on the wall all add just the right amount of texture without overwhelming a space. I love sprinkling these little touches throughout our home because they make each room feel warm, collected, and lived in. It’s proof that you don’t need a house full of wicker furniture to enjoy the charm of wicker, you can start with just one beautiful accessory.

Wicker Lighting
One of my favorite decorating projects was turning inexpensive wicker food covers into unique kitchen light shades, I have since switched them out, but I loved the warmth they brought to the space. And then a wicker lampshade and a wicker-inspired lamp both bring in natural textures that add that relaxed, collected style I’m always drawn to.

Wicker Outdoors
Wicker and porches just seem to go hand in hand. At one time I had this charming white wicker patio set and a matching rocking chair that made our porch feel so inviting. I eventually sold that loveseat and bench, a decision I’ve definitely regretted! If I ever come across another one while thrifting, there’s a good chance it’ll be coming home with me.

Painted Wicker
One of the things I love most about wicker is how easy it is to give it a completely new look with a fresh coat of paint. Over the years, my wicker chairs have been black, white, hunter green, and now a rich dark brown. I’ve even repainted my wicker rocking chair twice! If I’ve learned one thing, it’s that spray paint is by far the easiest way to paint wicker. It reaches all of those little nooks and crannies, provides even coverage, and leaves a much smoother finish than trying to use a paintbrush. If you’re thinking about updating an old wicker piece, don’t be afraid to give it a new color, it can completely transform the look of your furniture.

Final Thoughts
Looking back through all of these photos, it’s funny to realize just how much wicker has shaped the look of our home over the years. Some pieces have stayed, others have been painted, moved, or even sold (and a few I wish I’d kept!), but every one has helped create the relaxed, collected style I love. I hope this collection inspires you to add a little wicker to your own home, or maybe even look at an old thrift store find in a whole new way.
