A Vintage Bird Cage Found the Perfect Spot in Our Dining Room

Some decorating pieces are planned, and others seem to find you when you least expect them. I’ve admired vintage bird cages for years, but never came across one that felt quite right. Last weekend, while visiting my parents, I spotted this one sitting in my mom’s giveaway pile in the garage. Needless to say, it came home with me.

I put it in our dining room where it adds just the right amount of charm without making the window feel heavy or blocking the natural light. I love how something so simple can add texture, height, and a collected feel to a space.

If you’ve been thinking about decorating with vintage bird cages, I thought I’d share how I’m using mine, Right now it’s just sitting on a table empty, but I think it could also be cute if I added a small plant to it, or filled it up with seashells or a candle. We will see, but for now I like how it looks empty.

To be honest, its’ most likely this single image that had me wanting a birdcage so badly. I have coveted this image from a Pottery Barn Catalog from probably a century ago. It’s been engraved in my mind so hard and it’s always been that birdcage that had me dreaming of having one of my own.
