My Chalkboard Wall gets a Spring Refresh

I have a chalkboard wall tucked into the corner of our kitchen that I painted years ago. I love being able to switch it up with the seasons, and for spring, I wanted to give it a fresh, cheerful update. With some dried flowers, a simple “Hello Spring” chalk design, and a few colorful accents nearby, this little corner is now giving off the sweetest flower market vibes 🌼

Romantic Charm with Hanging Dried Flowers

One of my favorite details in this little corner is the dried flowers hanging along the top of the chalkboard wall. There’s something about them that feels so romantic and a little bit shabby chic. I just added a little new cluster that inspired me to give this whole space a fresh look.

Wiping the Slate Clean for Spring

To give this space a fresh start for the season, I wiped away the previous chalk design and started with a clean slate. I wouldn’t call myself much of an artist, so I like to keep things really simple. This time, I wrote a big “Hello Spring” across the board and added a few oversized daisies for a cheerful touch. It doesn’t have to be perfect, just something that feels light, fun, and seasonal.

A trend that Came and Went (but I still love it)

There was definitely a time (back around 2010 to 2016) when chalkboard walls were everywhere! I’ll admit, I jumped right on that trend and even painted a large chalkboard wall in my boys’ room back in 2013 (which has since been painted over). It’s kind of funny how popular they were for a while, and now you hardly see them at all. But I’ve never really been one to follow trends too closely, and honestly, I still think chalkboard walls are just as fun as ever. For me, it doesn’t feel outdated, it’s just another creative way to add personality to our home.

A practical (and fun) spot in out back entry

This chalkboard wall is right by the back entry of our home, so it ends up being one of the first things you see when coming in through the back door. I love that it doubles as a fun little greeting space while also being incredibly practical. Our utility box is on this wall, and the black paint helps camouflage it so it blends right in and we can even write right over it. This corner is also where our trash can sits (not pictured) so the darker wall does a great job of hiding any messes or splashes that come with everyday life. It’s one of those spots that’s both pretty and functional, which always feels like a win.

A Fun way to Store Chalk

I added this old metal matchstick holder to the wall to keep my chalk close by, and it might be one of my favorite little details. I attached a strong magnet to the back so it sticks right onto the metal electrical box, making it so convenient!

Hooks with a Purpose

Right next to the chalkboard wall is a coat hook I made years ago using an old cupboard door, which was another little DIY trend from the same era as the chalkboard walls. I’ve been using the hooks to hang a collection of my favorite reusable grocery bags, and I love how the mix of colors and patterns adds to that cute flower market feel. It’s both decorative and practical!

A Sign that always makes me Smile.

Hanging just above the hooks is an actual U.S. Forest Service sign that reads, “Please leave the flowers—let others enjoy them too!” I’ve had it since my wild young adult days, and it’s one of those pieces that always makes me smile. My husband loves to point out the irony, considering the dried flowers hanging nearby, and honestly… he’s not wrong. My son gets in on the joke too, especially when my chalkboard said “Flower Market,” surrounded by anything but fresh blooms. 😂 I even thought about writing “Fresh Farm Flowers” at one point, but again… the joke would definitely be on me. It’s a little mix of humor and history that makes this corner feel even more personal.

A Wine Label Sticker

Here’s a closer look at the cupboard door wall hook, where I added a cute butterfly sticker. It’s actually a wine label that I carefully removed and repurposed, which makes it feel a little extra special. I once blogged about how I remove wine labels to use as stickers, you can find that blog post [HERE].

This little kitchen corner has become one of those spaces that just makes me happy every time I walk by. Between the chalkboard wall, the hanging dried flowers, and all the small personal touches, it feels collected, creative, and full of personality. I love that it’s not about following trends, but about using what I have and styling it in a way that feels like me. Sometimes it’s these small, tucked-away spaces that end up being the most fun to decorate.
