Do you ever have one of those days where you wake up and decide to paint your house? And I’m not just talking about a room in your house, but your actual House! HA! Well that happen to me.
I was sitting in our hot tub one morning, I looked over at the side of the house and told my husband I was going to paint it that day. He was 100% cool with my idea. So I changed into my paint clothes and got to work.
Here is the side of the house before I painted it. As you can see, it’s more of an “Accent” wall anyway. If you are interested in this light green-grey color that our house is currently painted in, See Blog Post [HERE].
I first used my broom to dust away all the dirt and cobwebs, and then I wiped the house clean with a rag. We once had a former house painted, and the painters told me that they found that paint sticks better if the house is a little dirty. Not sure it that is true or not, Perhaps they were trying to get away with not power washing the house first. But it makes sense to me. Dirt gives a little texture for the paint to adhere to.
Since I didn’t have a whole lot of paint left in my can, I used a paintbrush to apply it. I prefer paintbrushes over paint rollers for two reasons. 1. Paint rollers use up so much paint. Those rollers are like sponges and soak up all of the paint, and 2. Paint rollers tend to make a much bigger mess, spitting paint as they go. Plus it’s more to clean up than just a brush, And also I just really enjoy painting with a paint brush so that’s how I painted this side wall. Yes, it takes a little longer to paint using a paint brush rather than a paint roller, but I had the job done in no time.
Here is how the wall looked after one coat of paint. I later went in to apply a quick second coat.
This paint color is the same color that I used to paint our garage. This color is named, Martini Olive by Color Care Paint bought at True Value.
I recently painted our garage and blogged all about it [HERE]. I Painted the garage after we got the new brown metal roof. Blog post about the Metal Roof [HERE]. After we got the new brown metal roof I knew I wanted to paint the house. I decided to first paint the garage to find the color that I liked enough to paint the house with. I was able to paint the garage all by myself, whereas I will need to hire a professional to paint our house (minus the side wall I just painted 😉). I am so happy with how the garage turned out that I know the house will look just as great!
I actually have a picture of this side of the house with our old roof. Wasn’t it so cool with the moss growing on it? I loved it. Our home owners insurance company told us we had to get a new roof, so we did. But I did truly love our old roof.
I shared the above picture when I posted about a baby changing table that I made over to use as a potting table. You can see that post [HERE].
So now that you have the full back story, let me show you how the side of the house turned out after I painted it.
I Love it! I wish I could just keep going and paint the whole entire house myself but there’s too many places that I will not be able to reach on my own. I may see how far I get though, and then hire a painter to finish the job. We’ll see. I’ll probably wait till Spring to pick back up on painting.
The rest of the patio needs some attention too. We need to get our roofer to add some new gutters, and then the railing needs fixed. We took down the roof that was above the hot tub and we’re deciding on if we want to add a new one or leave it open. And then I also want to stain the deck and railings to a darker brown. Anyway…. One day at a time.
After I had the wall painted I cleaned this area up. I re-organized my potting table and hung my terracotta sun back up.
This old baby changing table has been working out great to hold all of my potting stuff.
I love this little old ladder. My neighbor had it in a free pile and I snagged it right up.
This area is nothing fancy, but I really just wanted to show you the paint color on the house. I really like this new color.
This color changes a lot depending on the light. It also changes a lot depending on what camera I use. Some of these pictures were taken on a camera and others on my phone. So they may look different in each of the pictures. But I think you get a good feel for the color.
So what do you think? Have I inspired you to paint your house on a random Sunday morning? LOL.
