Whenever I come across a wonderful new book you know I always want to share it with you. You can see my other book reviews HERE. And actually as I just added that link, I realize that I still have a few other books to share with you, and I will eventually, but I wanted to make sure to share this one first because I think it would make a very lovely Mother’s Day gift. It’s a wonderful book to gift to a mother, grandmother, friend, or even to yourself. You could gift it alone, or along with a bouquet of roses, a rose plant, or even some gardening tools. The Color of Roses is the new book from Danielle Dall’Armi Hahn. Danielle is the owner of Rose Story Farm in Carpinteria, California, which has over 40,000 rose bushes. When I read Danielle’s story and her passion for roses I felt so inspired. I want to start my own rose garden now.

Inside this book is page after page of a curated spectrum of 300 blooms. Organized by color, each page list the name, breeder, year of earliest introduction, type of plant, fragrance, plant size, and bloom size for each rose. This book is meant to be used as a helpful guide to support gardeners, rose lovers, and floral designers discover new favorites. It’s also beneficial for selecting a rose color scheme for your garden, special event, or floral arrangements.
The author’s notes said that her hope is that this book will be a working companion to all rose growers, flower arrangers, and mad dreamers……and that she would love it to earn dogeared pages and be filled with loving notes of favorite blooms and garden quips. I absolutely love that!!!
Now for me, I have to admit, I do judge a book by its cover, Quilty! I’m a sucker for a beautiful book and this one is just that! It has such a pretty cover and looks so lovely on a bookshelf or on a coffee table. It’s a smaller size book which makes it great to stack on top of other books, or to have left open on a pretty page on a coffee table.
Not only do I have a thing for beautiful covers, but the same goes for the book spine as well. That might sound strange, but as a home decorator these things matter. Everything on displayed in a home becomes home decor, even if it’s just a book on a bookshelf it can be though of as aesthetically pleasing home decor.
Something else that I wanted to mention about this book that I thought was so impressive is that the author, Danielle, had the photographer, Victoria Pearson, leave the photographs untouched so that the imperfections and true colors could reveal the rose’s true beauty. I just thought that was splendid!
Now I don’t want to give away too much about this book because I’d love for you to discover more for yourself. If you or someone you know would enjoy this book, I highly recommend it. I know this book has me VERY inspired to go get a couple of rose plants for my garden and now after looking through this book, I have my eye on a few roses that I’m dreaming about planting; Fun in the Sun, Charles Darwin, Tangerine Steams, and Green Romantica, just to name a few. It’s fun just to read all of the names of the roses, there are some really creative ones.
Seeing these bookshelves fill up with more and more books makes me so happy. Having these two bookshelves in our home always beckons me to sit down, relax, and read a book.
