Seaside Shelves: Beachy Bookshelf Styling

We have two large white bookshelves in our home that I love to style and switch up. Over the weekend, I gave them a fresh, beachy update with lots of seashells and glass accents, and I’m excited to share the look with you today!

These bookshelves are one of the first things you see when you walk into our home, so I love keeping them fun, fresh, and welcoming. I also like to pretend I live in a beach house, so I try to create a relaxed, vacation-home vibe with the way I style them

I get asked all the time where these white bookshelves are from. They originally belonged to my mother-in-law and were a dark 1970s brown. I gave them new life with a fresh coat of white paint. If you’re looking for something similar, I recommend checking out thrift stores and estate sales.

Speaking of thrift stores—I don’t go as often as I used to, but back in the day, I was a regular! Thrift shops and yard sales were my go-to spots, so a lot of the pieces you see on these shelves (and throughout our home) are secondhand treasures.

On my last thrift store visit, I scored a Ralph Lauren duffle bag for just a few dollars. I love its look, so I like to keep it out on display around the house. I keep an extra throw blanket tucked inside, so it’s both stylish and functional.

The black metal numbers—1 and 2—that I hung on the bookshelves are actually our old house numbers. I’ve been toying with the idea of swapping them out for horseshoes instead. I think they’d add a fun touch! What do you think—should I stick with the numbers or go with the horseshoes?

I have a framed photo of a horse that I keep out, and I love mixing a little equestrian charm into my beachy decor. It might be a bit unexpected, but it somehow works. One of my bucket list dreams is to ride a horse along the beach someday.

By the way, the horse print is a free art download, and you can get it [HERE].

Glass bottles are one of my favorite elements to include in a beach-inspired display. They add such beautiful reflection and sparkle. I’m particularly drawn to blue glass bottles—they’re just so soft and pretty. I used to have a much larger collection, but over the years, I’ve given many away as I’ve tried to simplify and downsize.

Most of our family photos live in the hallway or on the fridge, but this one of Jake and Me In Mexico from our dating days is a favorite. I love the worn, chippy frame it’s in—another great thrifted find.

As I’m writing this blog post, I’m realizing just how badly I want to be at the beach right now. It’s actually been years since I’ve been, and I’m really missing it. I can decorate my home in beachy pieces all day, but nothing compares to actually being in a beach house—that’s for sure.

And lastly, a pair of oars lean up against the side of the bookshelf.
