Iris Garden at My Cottage Home

I keep telling my husband (probably one too many times) that spring is my favorite season. I’m sure he’s tired of hearing it by now, but honestly, I think this is the first year I’ve really felt just how much I love it. It’s been so peaceful watching the trees and plants come back to life in just a few short weeks.

Irises are my husband’s favorite flower, so we add more to our garden every year. The ones in front of our cottage-style home are just starting to bloom, while the backyard irises are still coming along. They’re so beautiful and the scent is absolutely amazing!

Irises are such a wonderful addition to the garden because they naturally spread on their own. We end up with more plants each year. And after they’re done blooming, they leave behind beautiful green foliage that stays lush and full all the way through fall.

I think I’ve only shared the exterior of our home once since getting the new brown metal roof. We are still so happy with our decision to go with metal. You can learn more about our metal roof [HERE].

I use to paint our front door a different color almost yearly, but I still like the brown gel-stain door and so I’m keeping it this color for now. Learn how I achieved this “wood” look on our front door [HERE].

I truly love gardening, and every year I find myself adding more and more flowers to both the front and back of our home. That said—just because I love gardening doesn’t necessarily mean I’m great at it 😊 Not every plant I put in the ground thrives. But little by little, I’m learning which ones do well and which ones just aren’t a good fit. Irises have definitely proven themselves, so I’ll keep adding more of them. Hydrangeas, on the other hand… I think it’s time I finally admit defeat!

We also have dreams to paint the exterior or our house, probably not in the budget for this year, but hopefully next year. We want to paint our house the same green color as our garage that I painted myself last fall. See more of our garage [HERE].

Painting our home is definitely on the want list, while other projects have fallen into the need category. A new HVAC system, a new roof, and a large tree removal all had to take priority. Ah, the joys of homeownership, Am I right?

I truly love our little cottage home and feel so grateful to live here. We’ll keep adding more flowers to the garden—especially irises—and little by little, we’ll get to all the other projects on our list… someday.
