I’ve moved some furniture around our home and it instantly made our home feel new and refreshed. If you are feeling bored with your home, then I highly suggest moving furniture around. It doesn’t cost anything and can instantly bring new energy into a space. These two bookshelves were in our office / sunroom before but I’m really loving the new look they now give to our dining room.
I’m also having so much fun decorating the shelves with random items from around our home.
So the bookshelves are on this wall that divides the dining room from the living room. I found a new place for the antique bakers rack and the white bench that were on this wall before. I’ll share where I moved those to next time.
I knew that these shelves would look great on this wall. I like that they add height and symmetry to this space. What I had on this wall before really broke up the space and looked a bit random, but these shelves really add a more cohesive, calming feeling that I’m really happy about.
I decorated the shelves with my usual go-to coastal decor, and I purposely kept the decor on the shelves looking very equal and cohesive. They are very Twinning with each other.
For instance the top shelves each have a stack of my grandma’s straw hats, the middle shelves each have a coastal picture and the bottom shelves each have a wire basket and a large glass drink canister.
I’ve had these bookshelves for ages now. They were handed down to us from my mother in law. These shelves were once wood but I had painted them white. I also added the numbers 1 and 2 to them. The numbers were once our old house numbers that we had replaced.
The bookshelves really fit perfectly on this wall and I’m kinda surprised I hadn’t thought to move them here before now. I also like how they somewhat mimic the two corner hutches in the room.
In between the two bookshelves I have this tall wicker piece with a faux lemon tree placed inside. The Wicker piece was my grannies and so it makes me think of her, and the lemon tree is from Balsam Hill a few years ago.
On shelf #1 we have my grandma’s straw hats and white dishes on the top shelf.
A vintage ship print, a large glass bottle, and a piece of driftwood sit on the middle shelf. And on the bottom shelf is a wire basket full of table clothes and a glass drink canister. Many of these items were found at flea markets, thrift stores and/or yard sales.
Now on shelf #2 we have more of my grandma’s straw hats on the top shelf along with a couple of white pitches. The pitchers were different colors before but I spray painted them white to look like ironstone.
On the middle shelf we have a lighthouse painting that was painted by my husband’s grandpa, a large seashell that also belonged to my husband’s grandparents. The shell sits on a silver metal fish tray. On the bottom Shelf is a wire basket full of blue glass bottles that I’ve collected and another glass drink canister that we use to hold our wine cork memories.
It’s fun that these shelves have memories of my husband and my grandparents. I hadn’t even realized that until writing this post. Even one of the blue glass bottles was my grannies too. 😊 I think home decor should be personal and memorable, don’t you? otherwise it’s just decorative and not meaningful.
