How to make a Gourd Wreath or Centerpiece

Happy November!

November is such a confusing month for me, Halloween is now over, and it’s time to start thinking about Thanksgiving, but Christmas is more fun to decorate for, I just want to fast forward to December.  But I need to remind myself to slow it down, and take it all in, because November is a wonderful month, a time to stop and reflect on all the amazing things I am thankful for.

So before I get out the evergreens, I decided to make a pretty Thanksgiving wreath. 

My husband came home one day from work with a big bag full of gourds that his secretary had given him from her garden.

I wasn’t quite sure what to do with them all, so I asked a designer friend of mine and he said to make a wreath out of them. And so I did. I went to the dollar store and picked up a wire wreath form and some faux leaves.  I would have loved to use real leaves, but they just don’t seem to last long once cut.

To make the wreath, I first hot glued all of my gourds onto the wreath form.  Now I used this wire one, but it was a tad bit difficult  to get the gourds to stay on it.  I  had to use a ton of glue, and glue them down several times.  So perhaps a different kind of wreath form would have worked better.

This wreath can be either hung up on a door, or used as a centerpiece on a table.  

I just placed a long candle in a glass votive in the center of it.

Layer on a few pretty fall dishes and it’s all set for a Thanksgiving dinner.

However it also looks very festive hanging up too.

The colorful leaves mix in so well with the yellow gourds.

Now lets see if I can keep it up until Thanksgiving.  I really am excited for Christmas this year.
