Horse decor has a way of adding character, warmth, and a timeless feel to a home, and it’s something I’ve slowly collected and styled throughout ours. From a recent refresh of our bookshelves to small equestrian details tucked into different rooms, these pieces feel personal and lived-in rather than themed. Today I’m sharing how I’ve styled horse decor around our home, starting with my re-vamped bookshelves and carrying it through the dining room, living room, bedroom, and beyond.

Revamped bookshelves with classic horse decor
The sun was pouring in across our bookshelves this morning, and the light was so beautiful that I immediately reached for my camera. As I was snapping photos, I realized it was the perfect opportunity to finally share my recently revamped bookshelves with you.

Here on a bottom shelf we have a wicker wine rack and a white pitcher full of faux hydrangeas. I like to add items to the wine rack, along with bottles of wine. So on this wine rack you will see a tall pillar candle and a stack of fringe edged cloth napkins.

On the bottom shelf of the second bookcase sits a large horse statue that’s especially meaningful to us. It’s a duplicate of a sculpture my husband’s grandfather originally created by hand and later turned into a mold so additional pieces could be made. Having it displayed here adds a personal layer to the shelves and makes this space feel even more special.

Behind the horse statue sits a framed photo of my husband as a little boy, napping beside his grandpa. It’s one of my favorite pictures and feels especially fitting placed near the horse sculpture. I love incorporating personal photos like this throughout our bookshelves among the decor to make the space feel warm and personal.

The framed horse artwork on the shelves, along with the tropical flower prints layered behind it, are actually free art I found online. I’ve shared my favorite source for free printable art on the blog before (you can read that post here), It’s a wonderful resource if you’re looking to add art to your home without spending a lot. There are several beautiful horse prints available on the site, which makes incorporating horse decor into your home both easy and accessible. This particular horse portrait caught my eye, and I love the timeless look it adds to our shelves.

Lastly, between the two bookshelves sits an old chippy white stool topped with a rustic metal lantern. I’m not entirely sure why, but this lantern has always felt very equestrian to me. Hanging above it is a Burberry check scarf, which adds a classic English, equestrian-inspired touch and ties the whole vignette together beautifully.

A Lucky Horseshoe in the Dining Room
Hanging up in our dining room is a simple horseshoe that adds another subtle equestrian touch to the space. Directly beneath it is a framed black-and-white photograph of a ship, which is also a piece of free art from the same source I mentioned earlier. Since the dining room shares space with the bookshelves, this small nod helps carry the horse decor seamlessly throughout the room.

It’s possible that this old horseshoe once belonged to my husband’s grandfather as well. He was quite the cowboy, and many of the horse pieces around our home have a connection to him, which makes them feel even more meaningful.

Horse Details in our Living Room
I recently blogged about our living room, which I’ve styled in an equestrian theme (you can check it out HERE). Since today’s post is focused on horse decor throughout our home, I wanted to share a few of those images here too, but be sure to catch that post to see more of our living room. In that post I sourced a lot of equestrian home decor as well.

A lot of my favorite equestrian pieces, like the horse artwork on the fireplace and the horse bookends, can be found in this space.

You might have missed the second pair of horse bookends in my living room photos. These ones have a glossy red finish, which makes them blend a bit with the wood background. I’m thinking of moving them to another spot in our home (maybe on the white bookshelves) so they can really stand out and be seen better.

A Summer Fireplace Styled with Horse Art
I didn’t get a chance to share this last summer, but I painted colorful stripes on our mantel and added this horse painting. Vintage badminton racquets, stacks of old books, a graduation stein, and a vase of hydrangeas completed the look, giving the mantel a fun, preppy summer feel.

This is a full look at our living room from last summer. A few updates have happened since then. I painted the walls and ceiling and added wood to the fireplace, which covered up the fun striped pattern.

A Subtle Equestrian Touch in the Bedroom
Another look from last summer that I didn’t get a chance to share is in my bedroom. I brought this horse painting into the space and loved how it looks against the wood ceiling and blue walls.

I did however have a chance to blog more about this white bedding. It’s so pretty! Catch that blog post HERE.

This last look at my bedroom shows how versatile horse decor can be. The space leans more rustic and country, with wood ceilings, a denim ottoman, and a cow skull on the brick chimney. The horse artwork itself has a more relaxed, country feel, while equestrian art often features horses styled for polo or classic hunting scenes.

Throughout our home, from the living room and dining area to the bookshelves and bedroom, horse-inspired pieces bring personality, warmth, and a sense of collected style. Whether your home leans equestrian, country-western, or a mix of both, incorporating meaningful horse decor can create a layered, curated look that feels uniquely yours.
