One of my husband’s clients brought him some apples that were picked from her orchard. I love freshly picked organic apples and that was so kind of her. However, our fridge was pretty full and so I needed to come up with another place to store the apples and that’s how this hanging fruit basket in our kitchen came to be.
I’ve had this hanging wire basket for a while now, but just never found a place for it. I’ve always loved the idea of hanging it up in our kitchen but I just could never think of a place to put it. I also always thought I’d need to hang it from the ceiling, but I’m short and so there is no way I’d be able to reach the fruit if it were hanging that high.
But then It dawned on me that I could add a hook to our window trim and then hang the wire basket from it. The hook is actually a bracket made for outdoor hanging plants.
And then I did a little rearranging to this corner in our kitchen. I switched out the wall hooks that I had before for this simpler one that I made forever ago. I made the wall hooks out of an old cupboard door and some vintage coat hooks. And then I’ve just hung a market bag from it to easily grab on the go.
This was such a simple 10 minute project, but I have to say, I LOVE having fruits and veggies out in the open. My boys have eaten up most of those apples by now and the fruits add a cheerful color to our kitchen.
Do you have a hanging fruit basket? If not, Do you have room to add one? You may just find that you like having your fruit out on display too.
Here are a few hanging fruit baskets and brackets that I have found online if you’re interested in getting one.
