I had a fun idea over the weekend that I wanted to share with you! I added a piece of red plaid fabric behind my bed to create a canopy, and it turned out just as cozy as I imagined.

Just to clarify, I already had white curtains hanging in all four corners of my bed. I put them up a while ago and even wrote a blog post about it [HERE]. I basically used four twin-size sheets and a staple gun to hang them.

I’m not quite ready to decorate for Christmas yet, but I think this is a great starting point for when I am.
The plaid fabric I’m using is something I had on hand. It’s flannel, so it might even be a bed sheet—though I’m not sure since there’s no tag. I’ve used it as a tablecloth before and usually pull it out around Christmas to incorporate into my decorating.

To hang the canopy, I simply draped the fabric over a curtain rod above the window and used two thumbtacks to secure the corners. It took a few tries to get it just right, but in the end, it turned out to be the perfect little box awning.

I’m lucky to have the perfect a-frame ceilings for adding curtains, but I can definitely see this working with flat ceilings as well. The same goes for my corner curtains.

If you’re new here and didn’t know, we actually installed the wood ceilings in this room using wood from our old fence. You can read all about it [HERE].
