While we were vacationing in Hawaii last year we rented an awesome Airbnb. This Airbnb had a huge porch that overlooked lava rock and the ocean. We spend a good portion of our vacation on that porch, sitting on a Futon couch, just chill’n. My husband and I both agreed that the futon was the perfect thing to sit back and relax on. And so as soon as we returned home, I made it my goal to find us a futon. I searched our local Facebook yard sale page until one day when this one showed up…
This futon is definitely not as nice as the one in Hawaii. Nor does it come with a beautiful view to look out into, but it’s still a comfy place to sit and relax. So I just make due with what I have and I always knew that one day I’d like to paint the futon frame and fix it up to look a little bit better. And so when I heard aboutDixie Belle Chalk Mineral Paint, I knew that this was just the paint I needed to makeover our futon.
The Best part about Dixie Belle Chalk Paint is that you do not have to sand or prime your furniture before painting it!!! Our futon had a shiny glossy finish on it that would normally need to be both sanded and primed prior to painting it, so this paint made the job SO much easier then how I would normally go about painting it. Dixie Belle also comes in a huge selection of beautiful colors and finishes. For our futon, I decided to go with the color, Caviar, which is the perfect shade of black.
I was in love with this paint the second I started using it. It is such a nice quality of paint. It covers like a dream and the color was just what I had hoped for.
After painting the majority of the futon, it dawned on me, that I really didn’t need to paint the whole thing since the mattress covers most of the frame anyway.
So to be completely honest, I didn’t quite finish the job. Shhh don’t tell anyone!! LOL! But Really, I didn’t see why I even needed to. Would you have?
Anyway….I placed the mattress back on the frame and found a cute blue fitted sheet to put over it.
Then I had fun decorating the rest of our patio. I brought out some other wicker furniture, some plants, and throw pillows and created a relaxing place to hang out at and enjoy the outdoors.
I’ll be back to share more of this space in my next blog post, so keep a look out for that if you would like to see more.
I think futons get a bad rap sometimes for being cheap collage furniture, but I really don’t care. I find this couch to be super comfortable…….and really to me, that’s all the matters.
Plus, on the first day of summer, my husband and I even slept outside. Of course a futon doubles as a bed. We just loaded it up with pillows and blankets and enjoyed sleeping under the stars…. Which is just another great thing about using a futon for outdoor furniture.
So What do you think?
I hope that I have inspired you to try out Dixie Belle paint, because I really think you’re going to love it as much as I did. It’s also just really fun to look at the Dixie Belle Website, or follow them on Facebook andInstagram because they share tons of really awesome painting ideas.
Also if you have a futon that could look a bit better, than I hope that I have inspired you to paint it.
Please let me know if you have any questions or comments, and as always you can find me on Facebook, and/orInstagram as well.
Plus, there’s no stopping me from pinning away onPinterest.
Peace & Love,
Emily
Hi Emily. We have a futon also, in our finished basement and it makes a great extra sleeping space when family visits. With having yours on the back porch/deck area, how do you keep it from getting wet when it rains?
This is so incredible! You have such a talent! Thank you so much for using our paint to create this amazing futon look.
