One afternoon I carried one of our quilts out to the lawn next to my sunflower patch, added a picnic basket and a few throw pillows, creating a relaxing little spot. There wasn’t a special occasion or a party to decorate for.. I just wanted to slow down for a little while and enjoy the beauty of summer before it slips away. With the sunflowers in full bloom and little yellow finches chirping overhead, it felt like the perfect excuse to grab my camera and capture the moment.
It’s always nice to have a small picnic basket and a rolled up quilt ready to go….. even if your just taking it outside to the backyard.
I love summer and want to enjoy it as much as I can. I know that the heat is sometimes too much, but if you can find a shady spot it really isn’t that bad, especially with a cold drink and not a whole lot of anything else.

The quilt was actually made by my son in his high school sewing class, which makes it one of my favorite pieces to bring outside.
Looking back through these photos reminds me that creating a beautiful home doesn’t stop at the front door. Sometimes it’s as simple as spreading out a quilt in the grass, listening to the birds, and appreciating the season you’re in. These quiet little moments are often the ones I remember the longest, and I’m so glad I took the time to capture them.
