Festive Christmas Living Room 2024

At our house there are 3 things that make our Top Christmas Home Decor list. These 3 things are our favorites Christmas Decor and really the only Christmas decor that matter to us. These 3 things are; 1. The Christmas Tree, which is a given, 2. The homemade stockings that are knitted by my mother in law, and 3. Our ever growing collection of nutcrackers.

Every year I mix up how I decorate and where things go, however this really is the best place for our Christmas tree. It has been in this spot for that last several years. In past years I’ve placed it in other corners of the room, but here it is once again in this corner of our living room.

A few things that make this years decorating different than years before, is that this year I decided to hang our stockings down the whole length of our mantel, and not just grouped on one side only, like in previous years.

I love how the stockings look. Another thing that I’m loving this year is this little bench behind our couch with a fun pillow and quilt. I think it gives our living room a bit of a Scandinavian feel.

An area in our home that I have never decorated for Christmas before is this wall in our kitchen. I recently hung the shelf up and from there I have created this really festive Christmas display.

You can get so much milage out of a small shelf with hooks like this. I added a lot of decor to it to create this fun look. I highly recommend adding small shelves or hooks around your home. They will be sure to get used up in no time.

I thought this old enamel salt box made a cute place to add a small faux tree to.

This was about the majority of my decorating in our Kitchen, but I still wanted to share it with you.

Around the corner are some bookshelves. I thought the side of the bookshelf would be a great place to hang our Christmas cards. All I did was hang a long piece of ribbon from the top of the bookshelf and then I’m using clothes pins to attach the cards.

On the bookshelves are some of our nutcrackers, there are more nutcrackers around the room that I didn’t take pictures of, at least not yet. We have quite the collection of nutcrackers.

We get a new nutcracker every year and they have been so fun to collect.

I once did a DNA test and found out that I have German in me, along with Scottish, Danish, England, Belgium, and a bit of Sweden. And so at Christmas time I love to incorporate a little bit from each of these countries into our home because it feels like there are some part of these Christmas traditions that are somehow a part of me.

The belt and matching bag that I have attached to a pillow and hanging from the bench look German/Belgium to me and so I like to incorporate into my Christmas decorating.

And then on my Christmas tree are a lot of red and white ornaments that I think have a bit of a danish look to them.

You’ll find a lot of sweet little gnomes hiding in our tree which I believe is a Scandinavian tradition.

The Homemade knitted stockings and the homemade knitted yarn garland hanging above them definitely have a Hygge feel about them, which represents my Danish heritage.

It’s so funny that we have so many stockings since there are only four people living here. I believe my husband has four stockings, one of my sons has two, then there is one for each of our dogs that are no longer with us.

But they are each so special so I wanted to hang them all.

I found some little push pin hooks that I used to hand the stockings. I just put the little pins into a wood beam that sits on our mantel. I was thrilled with how it turned out.

I like that next to the tree is a bookshelf filled with books. I just thought the books made a pretty backdrop without needing to take any attention from the tree.

This year I used every decoration that we own. I keep downsizing our Christmas decorations at the end of the season as I’m putting it all away, especially if it was something that we didn’t use that year. So this year it felt like we had just the right amount of decorations.

I don’t think I have ever used every tree ornament we own on our tree, but I do love how full the tree looks this year.

I even spruced up our entryway a bit. I hung some eucalyptus on the horse picture, and then hung some bells from the accordion rack below it.

Whenever I decorate our entry way, I first go to my closet and find hats, bags, and jackets to hang. This time I grabbed some red plaid items; a backpack and a wool vest were just the thing.

Simple but cheerful!

Here is one of our new nutcrackers this year. Isn’t he fun with the bears?

Another nutcracker here by the tree.

I may be back again to share more decorating around our home, but we’ll see. I can’t believe we are already two weeks away from Christmas. Because it’s going by so fast, I really just want to enjoy every bit of it with my family.

P.S. I said I might be back with a few more pictures from around our home, and here they are:

The shelf in the dining room holds more of our nutcracker collections, as well as above the corner hutches.

And then I took a few more pictures of the tree from a different angle.

I realized that I didn’t share this other new nutcracker that we got this year so I wanted to add it to this post.

It’s a fun beachy nutcracker, I just love it and the seagulls on top are so much fun. I got this nutcracker as a gift from a favorite uncle, the same time that my husband got the nutcracker with bears that I already shared, but worth sharing again.

And then lastly, Not long ago I shared a blog post about hanging a piece of plaid fabric above my bed to create a canopy, and since it does add a Christmas touch, I thought I’d re-share it again here.

Okay, now I think that is it for my Christmas decorating this year. I hope you enjoyed this tour.

Merry Christmas!
