I Added Faux Brick Wallpaper to our Fireplace

I’ve had this idea to add a faux brick peel and stick wallpaper to our fireplace for such a long time now, and so I’m so happy that I finally did it. I brought my vision of a brick fireplace to life. And truthfully, it turned out exactly how I had envisioned it.

As a reminder, here is what our fireplace looked like previously.

Well except for the missing boards on the mantel. I took them down as I was deciding whether I wanted to keep the white barn wood slats up or flip them over to reveal the wood side, or perhaps take them down completely and repaint the wall. These are all different looks that I have tried before in the past.

Also, just in case you were wondering, that cute painted heart was just something silly I had added one day while painting the rest of the fireplace knowing that it would be covered up.

So as you now know, I’ve changed the look of our mantel several times over the years and each time it has completely transformed the whole look of our fireplace. But this is the first time that I’ve switched up the look of the bottom half of our fireplace, which is the shiny black tile part.

All I did was order THIS PEEL AND STICK WALLPAPER from Target. It cost around thirty dollars and covers 28 feet. I ended up using the entire roll to cover up our tile. This peel and stick wallpaper comes in other brick color options, or you can choose from so many other fun designs as well.

As soon as my wallpaper arrived, I got to work on adding it to our fireplace. It took me about two hours to complete this project.

This was my first experience ever using a peel and stick wallpaper but I found it to be fairly simple to apply. As far as tools needed, I only used my scissors, a credit card type card, and a razor blade. I have watched videos of other people applying the peel and stick wallpaper before and so I had a pretty good idea already about how to do it. Some helpful tips are to over compensate areas and trim it down later, and also to slowly peel the backing off as you go along. If you want to give peel and stick wallpaper a go and have never done it before, then I might also suggest watching a youtube video or two because youtube videos can be so helpful.

I did have to pull parts of the wallpaper up and re lay it several times but that didn’t seem to be a problem. I also found this wallpaper to be very forgiving, especially if I didn’t line the brick pattern up perfectly.

I knew from the beginning that I wanted to cover all of the black tile, so that meant adding the wallpaper to the hearth as well.

Once I was finished adding the brick wallpaper I kept saying that I felt like our fireplace looked So Christmasy! Ha! Something about a brick fireplace Just reads Christmas to me I guess. That is why I was excited to immediately decorate the fireplace for Christmas.

Another thing that I wanted to share with you is my New Faux Fire Log. I’ve always wanted to have fires in our fireplace, but wood fires can require a lot of maintenance. We were first going to need to get a chimney sweep to come clean our chimney for us and just when I was about to make the call, I watched Rachael Ray talk about how her house burned down caused by a fire in her fireplace. And so that had me rethinking the whole fire idea. So I went online to find an alternative and that’s how I came across This Duraflame Infrared Log from QVC. I absolutely Love This fireplace insert! It has been such a cozy addition to our home. This electric log fireplace insert comes with a remote control and gives off a nice flickering light effect that looks just like a real fire. I was so excited to share more about my log with you but I’m so sorry to report that this product says that it’s No Longer Available.

This was my first time purchasing from QVC so I’m not that familiar with how it works, They May eventually restock them, but I don’t know that for sure. QVC Does have THESE other Options if you are interested. I also found These Close Contenders on Amazon. And I found this exact same one from Wayfair, but it has a different brand name for some reason. I’ll try to keep an eye on QVC and I’ll let you know if I ever see them back in stock.

So Moving on, as you can see, I have done some Christmas Decorating in our living room. I’ll be back to share more of the room with you next time.

But I just have to tell ya, this is actually the first year ever that I have decorated our home for Christmas Before Thanksgiving. We usually have a rule around here to wait until after Thanksgiving, But not this Year. Nope, this Year is just super Lame and needs all the Christmas it can get.
