10 reasons Why I Love Trunks

I have several trunks around our home and I love them all. I have collected my trunks over the years, picking them up at various places like, yard sales, thrift stores, and other places. My trunks range in different materials such as; wood, metal, faux leather, and wicker. Do you have any trunks? if so, I’ll be curious to know if you just love yours. Today, I thought I’d give you 10 reasons as to why I love my trunks and What I use them for.

  1. Trunks are stackable. I love the look of trunks stacked on top of each other like how I currently have mine pictured above. This is a great way to save on space and it just looks like a unique piece of furniture.
  2. Trunks are great for storage. The reason why trunks are great for storage is because you can fill them up with the things that you want out of sight but it can still look nice in the room.
  3. Trunks are great for holding memories. I think that there’s a nostalgia when it comes to trunks. Did your grandma or grandpa have a trunk full of treasures? The bottom trunk pictured above was my grandmas. She used this one as a toy chest. My trunks are mostly full of picture albums and my boy’s artwork from when they were little.
  4. Trunks make great coffee tables. If you have a large trunk then you can also use it as a coffee table or side table. I know I’ve used mine as a coffee table lots of times over the years. If your trunk is wicker, you’ll probably need a tray to go on top of it, but that works too.
  5. Trunks are great at the end of a bed. You can place a trunk at the end of your bed and fill it up with extra blankets and pillows. And then you have a place to sit down to put on your shoes or what not.
  6. Trunks can slide under a bed. When I had a “day bed” in our office, I placed several of my smaller trunks under the bed. They were not only great for storage, but they made the day bed look more like a day bed and less like a twin size bed. (pictured below)
  7. Trunks double as toy boxes. If you have smaller kiddos, Then trunks are a great place to stash their toys. My son keeps his Nerf Guns in one of his trunks.
  8. Trunks are stylish. Like I mentioned in my last post, I’m really into British Colonial Style right now, and Trunks are very popular with this style. They just have that rustic traditional style to them.
  9. Trunks Travel Well. Trunks are made to travel. When we moved years ago, I tried to pack as much of my stuff into trunks and wicker baskets just so that I wouldn’t have to use soo many cardboard boxes, and this worked great. Plus the trunks protected my glass and fragile items from getting damaged.
  10. Trunks have handles. Not all, but most trunks have handles that make them easy to carry and move around. Plus a lot of the times the handles add extra character to the trunk, especially if they are leather, rope, or a brass or rustic metal. Sometimes Trunks also have other hardware like locks and hinges that make them look even cooler.

So those are 10 reasons why I love trunks. Do you have anything to add?

Just discovered your blog featured on Southern Hospitality Blog last Week and am loving it. Had a good look around your posts, you’re home is wonderful and I love all the styling you do. I used trunks and lidded baskets a lot while raising a family for toys, shoes, linens, storing craft stuff, pool toys. I still use the large picnic basket we received as a wedding gift in 1976. We use it occasionally for picnics and the rest of the time it stores Christmas dishes atop the kitchen cupboards. Our daughter has our old 3rd generation cedar chest at the floor of their bed. It was her hope chest during her high school college years. Several years ago I decorated our pastor’s office who was a retired Army pastor using the trunks he actually used when deployed during the war. It was in the seating area of the office. That was the most unique take I ever did on trunks.
